Rather have it next year. And a few other thoughts.

This loss stings. I almost cried. Think of it this way, Payton and Mickey WILL find a way to improve. They always have. This 49ers team is good, but I don't see them dynasty good or elite like we are. I think the Packers will also slip next year. I would rather have it next year in the DOME if I got to choose between this year and next. We had a hell of a run. Broke record breaking records, and showed the league the best offense its ever seen.We earned respect in the NFL community. Now about Gregg Williams. I was blaming him at first, but I think it comes down to personnel. He is playing with the cards he's dealt. We miss McCray, Hargrove, and Sharper. We can find more players like that. Our offense is set. WE can now beef up our defense and will be unstoppable. Can you imagine the how all those blitzes would pay off with the right personnel??? Anyway, sorry Who Dat nation. It was a good run, but we will be contenders for years to come!

I agree with everything except the part about GW. He's just awful. I've been saying it all year.

OldMaid 01-14-2012 11:03 PM

Dude, I like your post.
I agree with everything, except for GW part.
I say this because I left the game at 49'ers 17 to Saints 0.
(Had a busy day, was just so nervous about this game.)
I did not see it so I cannot comment.
The Saints had a good year. These years have been amazing.
Getting to this point in a year is so difficult.
Next year is too far off to talk about .
Dude, if what you are saying could happen, then this will all have been worth it.

Thanks for the optimism, Dude. It is important after a loss like this. We are an EXCELLENT team who had a bad day.

Next year's goals: Better pass rush, new DC, #1 seed throughout playoffs = Ring #2

This D has been suspect all year, we have some really good players but yet have not played sound the entire year. It has been one he!! of a roller coaster ride with our D. I like consistancy, were not. If our O was not as good as it is, we would have a snowballs chance in he!! to get as far as we have with a D like we have, They played good against teams like the 9'ers but stink against teams that are good on the offensive side of the ball. Our D has played on borrowed time all year and our time ran out the last 5 stinkin' minutes of this game today. I want consistancy period.

I don't understand ripping the D and Gregg Williams. They forced 3-and-outs and kept us in the game. Without their effort this is a blowout. Got to the QB too. Outside of one missed tackle by Jenkins on the long Gore run we played solid against the run.

The Sproles and Roby fumbles are what I'd like to have back. We just usually don't make those kind of mistakes, being careless with the ball on special teams. Rest of the game we did what we could. Something was missing on offense - #16 and #23. The Niners defense played out of their minds. But again we did what we could.

I can't be embarrased by this loss. Last year was a lot tougher to swallow.

Better pass rush comes from better personnel

We need a defense...plain and simple. Our D sucked in '09 also but at least we got takeaways.....This year it still sucked and no takeaways....cant win like that

Michigan_SF 01-15-2012 12:12 AM

I don't know if we need a new DC but something has to change with this front 7.

mike27 01-15-2012 12:13 AM

Yea, plus after not getting the 7 points immediately, and losing Thomas to a head-butt, that I've read since my last post, was apparently legal, we became on entirely one-dimensional team. And we paid for it on a few drives, when Brees was shut-down.

All of this attack on Greg Williams is unwarranted. I'm not sure how you could watch a game with 5 turnovers, and think "God the Defense sucked." The defense was the only thing that kept us in the game, and if we hadn't had the fumbles, we'd have won.

I mean how often do you actually have a guy knocked out on the 3 yard-line, after driving all the way down the field? That's just bad luck. Anyone hear anything about that? Is he OK, Pierre? I was kind of surprised he didn't come back. His running style is clearly what we were lacking, the get hit, yet get a few more yards, somehow, even though it looks like he's down.

Brees had 462 yards and 4 TD. How on earth do we still lose? Major holes in our def strategy. It hasn't been just this game and its become clear that this is what has killed us the last two years. Our offense has disguised how bad our defense is for some time now.

how did we lose you ask??? TURNOVERS....every NFL coach you ever hear will tell you that the turnover battle is what wins games...we lost the battle badly...and almost still won...now for the defense:::when you consider the turnovers and the short field SF got to have the whole game, our defense was pretty damn good....but not great...our LB's(esp vilma) are slow...Vilma has bad knees...he is done and one or 2 great hits in the game dont make up for that....THE LAST 40 SECONDS OF THE GAME SEALED GW's FATE...YOU CANT RUN A DEFENSE THAT ALLOWS THE BEST WEAPON ON THE OTHER TEAM(V.D.) TO HAVE THOSE OPPORTUINITIES TO BEAT US WITH 40 SECONDS LEFT AND ALEX SMITH AS QB...that was F****** pitiful
GW needs to go

What you're saying, of course, is true. The sticking point comes when the game is on the line. With Veron Davis running wild and free, the 49ers go to the air and burn us to a cinder. GW, predictably, spends the entire fourth quarter in one continual blitz package, no nickel or dime, no safety help, no double coverage, EVEN ON DAVIS. And the blitz doesn't put pressure on the QB anyway. So a very mediocre OL and a very pedestrian offense and an very game-managing quarterback lay 36 points on our defense. We need a pass rushing front 4 / front 7. We need to start shutting down other teams' running games before the second quarter. We need to take care of the ball on offense and special teams. AND WE NEED A DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR WHO RELIES ON SOLID PLAY-CALLING AND PLAYER TALENT RATHER THAN GIMMICKS AND SLEIGHT-OF-HAND. TRANSLATED: A DIFFERENT DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR.

Agreed, just don't agree with the D calls when we went up with 1:37 left. What happened to avoid the big play, keep them in from of you and in bounds?
