Well, Saints fans, it’s officially over for our beloved Black and Gold this season with an unceremonious exit from the postseason at the hands of the 49ers and very rude hosts, in more ways than one, in San Francisco.

While it does us, as fans of the team, absolutely no good to mull over the “what if’s” and “what might have been’s” of the New Orleans Saints‘ 2011/12 season, it’s never too soon to start looking forward to what could become of next season, right?

Below is the current team roster, complete with asterisks indicating which players are free agents this offseason and including the ten players signed to futures contracts (FC) just last week with the New Orleans Saints.

This is a bit unrelated, but I can see Roman Harper being traded to the Rams to reunite with Gregg Williams. I reviewed their roster and the only player I'm interested in that we could reasonably expect in return would be Denario Alexander (6'5" 217 lbs 4.4 40time). If not him then definitely a 3rd rounder or so. Anything less and I think we're getting ripped off.

That could happen. You never know. Even if Harper stays, I like what he brings to the table, aside from his lack of coverage skills of course.

prior to the 2010 draft common feeling was he is first round talent that could be really, really good if he can stay healthy

By the end of 2011 = Alexander has proven to have NFL-level athleticism, but his questionable hands and proneness to injury make a 2012 breakout unlikely.

how about a box of cracker jacks. i wondered about him in the draft and thought he maybe a steal that late but he is a big risk

If, And it is a big if, Williams wants our pro bowl caliber ss, then a 3rd is not acceptable. I can't see Harper leaving but at the same time I have tried to figure out how he fits in our new DC's scheme. I don't want to lose Harper but if and I repeat A big if a 3rd doesn't scratch the service for his skill set.

This won't be that hard. Many on the roster are expendable on the defensive side.

What I like about that roster. 60 of the player have 6years or less experience. A young team with lots of room to get better.

I'd take a bag of fudge covered oreo cookies for Harper in a NY minute, and a Happy Meal from Mc Donalds for Patrice Robinson.

I think Harper is a system guy. He really fit in GW's. I don't know how he will fit in Spags. But I see a LOT of potential in Patrick Robinson. This was only his second year. He was left on an island a lot, and he was asked to play a lot of man to man.
