What would you do if
...the Saints let Drew Brees walk?
Yeah, that's right, I went there. When I read phrases like "free-agent-to-be" in all the recent articles being written about the status of contract negotiations between Drew and the team, I can't help but at least ponder this alternate reality. I'll admit it's a sick, twisted thought, but with free agency nearing and no new contract imminent, technically it's possible. What Would You Do If... - Canal Street Chronicles If he was available & healthy, I would want the Saints to sign Peyton Manning. |
It'll never happen, but if it did...
I'd still be a Saint fan and pull for whomever was behind center. I'd probably avoid all message boards since the constant wailing and gnashing of teeth would be intolerable. |
Whew, blasphany. Why do we even have to think of something that horrible. My love for the Saints will still go on. I think if he leaves it would be worse than Lebron leaving Cleveland though!!!
|
If Brees left the team, I think Chase Daniel would be able to get them into the playoffs. Of course the team would drastically change from a pass first team to a run first team. Heck, who am I trying to kid, the Saints would probably go 4-12... lol Fortunately, they have that thing called a franchise tag that will prevent Brees from leaving...

This is like dropping the N bomb in Harlem ... But i cant find any good reason why he would leave,or why we would want someone else instead of him . Why change something that works great?
On that note i would keep Tebow in Denver or Alex Smith in SF , just because they make things work.It may not look good, but as long as it works, why change. If Manning is leaving, and it looks like the Colts are rebuilding from the ground up-so they wont keep him, its a lottery where hes going to go.At this point in his career he will think more about $$ than performance,so probably will wind up in Arizona or something for big $$ . He might do a Warner though ,you never know in this game, just like the ones we beat the crap out of in the Dome are playing in the Superbowl. |
Total buzz kill, dude.
|
I'd support the next guy.

Start pumping Chase Daniel is the next Drew Brees... hard.
Life goes on. |

Not happening for another 5 years so not even thinking about it!

Well, the Saints have done some crazy-stupid things before.
Maybe not as crazy as letting Drew walk though. However, after the tears and graying of more hair, I have been and always will be a Saints fan. No matter what. |
This whole theoretical discussion centers on the phrase "with no new contract imminent" in the original post, which is false, so why even contemplate it. Both parties have said repeatedly that a contract is imminent and the intention is for Drew Brees to resign with the Saints. Now if we were reading articles every day about "Cleveland is looking to sign Brees" or "Drew Brees stops in to visit Dallas training facility" or "Redskins sign O-line players, eyeing Drew Brees as new face of team" then I'd be excreting rectangular building materials made of red clay. But NONE of those type of articles exist. No one with any credibility about the talks has even mentioned one other team he might theoretically go to.
There's just too much off-the-field money and politics riding on it, for the organization to let it happen -- no Brees = too many cancelled season tickets = empty Superdome = loss of concession/parking revenue = taxpayers angry over tens of millions of dollars in renovations = p---sed of Mercedes sponsorship = a whole mess of problems that the Bensons simply cannot afford. This conversation is silly. |
I'd get a Schweggman's bag and paint a big 9 on the back.
|
I swear no one has heard of a franchise tag?
I don't see it happening either... both sides have even said its going to get done. No since in worrying over nothing... worry about getting laid or something. |
Chase would be fine. He's better than a lot of other starters that's for sure. I think the playoffs are not out of the question either. Right now, the Saints are out of balance on the defensive side. Bring in a couple of good defenders, get a real pass rush going....no telling what could happen. I think we all know though Brees ain't goin' nowhere. It would be a real travesty if he left considering he's the single best thing that ever happned to the Saints. I don't even want to ponder on it too long...very depressing.
