Eli is elite... maybe on the tail end of it but he is.

There isn't a whole lot of QB's with rings... he has two and counting.

Its not about scaring someone its about winning!!!

Halo 02-06-2012 10:20 PM

Besides elite, I think he's a very fancy dancer

... and I think that's what makes people hesitate to call Eli 'elite', he wins ugly ... kinda' like a Tebow with talent or good mechanics ...

After this win, I think it's fair to to put him up there with Brady, Brees, Rodgers & Peyton ... he may not have the finesse, but he's got the characteristics you want in your QB and you can't argue with (2) SuperBowl rings.

Jankman8 02-07-2012 05:57 AM

Eli is elite and belongs in the Brady, Brees, Rodgers group. I might just add Stafford, but in my opinion Rivers doesn´t belong there anymore!

Rivers? No, it just didn't pan out for him, he's gonna' be in there with the Dan Marino debate ... now Stafford, he's knocking at the door and is one to watch ... plenty of potential, but he has to show he can do it for more then one season and win something first. Of all the newer QB's in the league, I like him best, but maybe I'm a little biased ...

CharityMike 02-07-2012 06:40 AM

All I am gonna say about all the other QB being mentioned in this thread is, people wouldn't call Brees Elite until he won a SB. Just Saying.

Jankman8 02-07-2012 07:01 AM

Eli played a lot better this year, his decision making got better and so on - hes is legit.

Euphoria 02-07-2012 08:47 AM

No ring = Not elite.

No Eil is not elite
Elite should means top 10% of starting QB's in the NFL.

1.)Brees
2.)Rogers
3.)P. Manning (if healthy) if not Brady

This is our discussion, not the media's.
Eli is a great QB. With the team winning the Superbowl it helps his case for being labeled "great."

Arguing that great QB's without rings are not great is a fallacy and poor logic.

#1 I know this is our discussion k thanks.
#2 I am not arguing ANYTHING. All I know is NO ONE wanted to call Drew elite in 2006 - 2008. It took him winning the SB in 2009 to START getting mentioned as elite and again, I am not talking about us as fans.

So people mentioning names like Newton as elite is just moronic. (no offense to whoever said that)

saintfan 02-07-2012 03:46 PM

I blame John Clayton who wants to extend the "elite" moniker all the way down to Matt Ryan. :brood:

jeanpierre 02-08-2012 12:55 PM

Eli is elite.

When the postseason comes, he has been clutch - twice, not a fluke.

Yes, he's elite.

His numbers are right there with the best - and he's sharing the ball in a balanced offense.

Saint_LB 02-08-2012 01:52 PM

Found this for comparison sake...you be the judge.

I mentioned Newton as a potential Elite "B".

Like him or not for the whole Auburn thing.... The kid is a player. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of his. But I do recognize ability when I see it. He had a great year for a Rookie QB. If....IF he keeps up that performance and gets better; he will be a QB to fear.

Almost 5,000 passing and rushing yards. He's finished 10th in passing yards.

When I think of Elite QB's; I think of QB's that you want to have the ball in their hands when the game is on the line.

No offense taken, by the way.

gandhi1007 02-08-2012 06:29 PM

Eli is a top 5 QB in the league. Does that make him elite? I don't think so. The elite status belongs to guys like Brady, Brees, Peyton Manning, & maybe.....maybe Aaron Rodgers if he puts up a few more big years. Warren Moon put up big numbers & won big games. Was he elite? My opinion is NO......same as Eli.

I would probably place Moon in the ELITE category. He was a much better QB than Eli is now, and imagine his numbers if he played his entire pro-career in the NFL. For those that don't remember he spent 6 years setting records in the CFL before he came into the NFL.

He was certainly elite in my eyes.

His turnover ratio alone leaves him out of the Elite category in my eyes. Moon turned the ball over alot.

He did do that, but he also ran the Run and shoot. That didn't help.

SapperSaint 02-08-2012 07:39 PM

I'm with Danno on Warren Moon.

He's the reason I liked Houston. Reason why Houston is still my "Saints" of the AFC.

gandhi1007 02-08-2012 08:04 PM

......but hey.....he's a Hall of Famer. ;-)

I went to a lot of Oiler games.... Believe me, the Oilers were "the Saints of the AFC." They both even had playoff collapses on the same day.
