I would say Morten Anderson; considering how long he played for the falcAints after the Saints let him leave, claiming he had 'diminishing skills'!!

Best Player The Saints ever just let walk?

FinSaint 02-10-2012 04:23 PM

Glover... he was my favorite. :cry2:

It doubly hurt losing him to Dallas

... gotta' be Mel Gray, return specialist extraordinaire ... he was All-Pro for the Lions every year after he left the Saints ... I'd plug for Jake Delhomme because he's a local boy, but winding up with Brees has to make you feel better about that ...

gandhi1007 02-10-2012 07:06 PM

Rickey Jackson......still had a few good Pro Bowl years.

Terrence Mathis.....never started as a Saint, but led the league in receiving & made a couple of Pro Bowls w/ the Falcons after he left.

LaRoi Glover.......same as Rickey Jackson

Man...look at all the players that went to Atlanta....Mathis, Morton Anderson, Joe Horn...didn't Iron Head go there too? Almost forgot about the Cajun Cannon Bobby Hebert.

RockyMountainSaint 02-10-2012 08:52 PM

Wes Chandler, Morten Anderson.

Michigan_SF 02-10-2012 09:06 PM

Michigan State put Morten AnderSEN in their hall of fame. Too bad about the NFL. I guess Suh has a better chance as a backup kicker :(

Whoops! I mixed up lost players and players that hurt us.

I blame school and job!

I'm tired boss......

sam mills going to the panthers. Does that count? Heart of our D to a division rival.

jeanpierre 02-11-2012 07:13 AM

Does this include weak-a$$ trades where we got nothing in comparison for return?

Budsdrinker 02-11-2012 10:26 AM

There were quite a few that went elsewhere and shined. Billy Kilmer, Wes Chandler, Chuck Muncie even Tom Dempsey back in the 70's. Archie was pretty much done but didn't like the way he was dealt in the 80's. Letting the dome patrol go a player at a time starting with Swilling then Jackson and Mills. Then Morten, and Bobby to the failclowns. Mark Fields and Glover. There were a lot that left and were still successful but I guess I would have to agree with Morton Andersen being the biggest lost since he still holds the record for scoring for both the Saints and Failclowns.

Even though RICKY WILLIAMS was a head case with the SAINTS, he did well when he came back with the DOLPHINS. Don't forget how IRON HEAD stop drinking and lost all that weight and came back a BEAST for the FALCONS.... I was pissed about that....

The Ricky Williams trade wasn't bad at all. #1-He didn't live up to his college career in black & gold, which was cool because the Master P deal made it so we paid him based on his performance. #2-Because he led the league his 1st year with the dolphins, we picked up one of their high draft picks (again....a trade based on performance).

Which all brings me to my next question......where is Master P & why is he not negotiating Saints players' contracts anymore??? :-)

Benson always had a used car personality. He'd get a good player then showcase him and sell him to the highest bidder. It was after Katrina that we stopped doing that when Rita Benson took over. If Benson was still running the show we'd be in San Antonio.

jeanpierre 02-13-2012 05:44 PM

I have always hated Bum Phillips because of the way he handled Archie Manning and the hole he put us in to get a wore-out Earl Campbell...

And the trucks of cash the NFL backed up to Benson's office...
