Draft question

How many picks do we have, and if multiples in the same round, which round? Also, is there anyway in almighty heck that we can trade something to get a first rounder???

|Mitch| 02-13-2012 08:19 PM

2nd round (59th overall)
3rd round (90th overall)
4th round (122nd overall)
5th round (154th overall)
6th round (166th overall) - via Redskins for Jammal Brown
6th round (167th overall) - via Dolphins for Reggie Bush
7th round (217th overall)

the 1st was sent to the Patriots to draft Mark Ingram, and the 6th was sent to the Dolphins as an exchange so the Saints could move up and draft higher in round 6 with the Dolphins' pick.

I'm not so much worried about a first but I would like a high 2 somehow someway and keep our other 2nd.

ScottF 02-13-2012 09:32 PM

unless we are willing to move PT or a wide receiver, we don't really have any trade-value depth

we could end up with another pick if we tender a resticted FA and someone else signs them-- maybe Casillas?

of course if we tag either Nicks or Colston and if they go away we would get two number 1's. Slim on Nicks and None on Colston

If we put the franchise tag on Nicks or Colston they can't go anywhere. They aren't restricted free agents. We re-sign them, tag them, or they just leave. We don't get anything.

If they are tagged as a "nonexclusive franchise player" there is a chance that another team hands them an offer sheet and if the Saints don't match that they would be compensated with 2 1st round draft picks, but that scenario is very unlikely to take place.

Why not trade Bushrod for picks.
He is greatly helped out by Nicks and his vaule couldn't be higher.

What would we get for Bushrod what 6 or 7 round pick is not that elite of a player that's just what I believe.

And who would we play at LT instead? Bushrod is serviceable and has a cheap contract. Lets keep him.

SaintPauly 02-14-2012 03:58 PM

How about Charles Brown? What's his contract situation?

Brown is still on his rookie contract which ends after the 2013 season - his cap hit for 2012 is $745K and for 2013 it'll be $825K.

They might as well keep him around for depth, although he probably won't ever become a starter, with such a low cap hit he can at least be a depth guy until he once again gets injured.

He has 0 trade value.

I definitely like that idea and much as I like PT, I think we could get a pretty high 2nd rounder for him. I mean, we wasted picks to get Ingram so I'd think he'd take PT's role anyway and we still have Ivory and Sproles plus the guy Chris something on PS who's supposed to have looked pretty good. I'd say if someone remarkable is there we pull the trigger on that trade. Maybe even a trade with Harper involved which might, combined with PT get us into round 1.:D

We couldn't get a 4th rounder for Bushrod.

Trading Harper would result in a 17 million cap hit in 2012, and we lose Harper and have to sign his replacement.

Not a wise move at all.

FinSaint 02-14-2012 04:29 PM

I'd be absolutely stunned if Harper was involved in some type of a trade deal this off-season.

I think they should hang on to PT, he is cheap, the best all around back they have and his screen plays are just killers. SP will want to hang on to four good RBs, so that the past problems with RB injuries won't come back to haunt him.

I would love to keep 4, but with the cap situation, those days might be over. I love PT, but I don't think we get anything for Ivory, and the other 2 aren't going anywhere

Loomis can always sign another FA running back

Rugby Saint II 02-14-2012 05:20 PM

I think PT will be here with the other three backs.

Exactly, and I don't think the Saints would get anything above a 3rd round pick for PT - maybe not even that - so there's no point in trading him, also his contract is cap friendly because it was heavily front loaded.

halloween 65 02-14-2012 07:29 PM

The Pats would take PT in a heartbeat and they have like 5 million picks this year, I really do not want PT to go anywhere . He is the best back we have period.

There are alot of teams that would take PT in a heartbeat. He's arguably the most under-rated RB in the league. We need to keep him.
