The Drew Brees dilemma...
 

New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis and Drew Brees’ agent, Tom Condon, recently resumed negotiations on the Pro Bowl quarterback’s new contract. Brees has a choice to make about the direction of the negotiations. He must decide whether to maximize his contract or take a “discount” in an effort to help keep the Saints’ nucleus intact. Peyton Manning did the latter last summer. He reportedly left money on the table by turning down a five-year, $100 million contract so the Indianapolis Colts could use the savings to improve the talent level and depth on the roster.

this part is a little hard to take for anyone making less than 8 digits:
Financially, Brees is in a different situation than Manning. It was much easier for Manning to take less money in his contract because he’s been among the NFL’s highest paid players for most of his career. so, because he only made 63 million, he's eating Ramen every nite?

Ultimately Drew will decide how much a Super Bowl is worth to him. Will he take 2-3mill less a year to keep the nucleus intact/

If Brees takes a massive chunk, and I think he can justify it, our defense will not improve and we could lose key star players.

Unfortunately, I think the Saints are considering this too. Hate to say it, but it's reality.

The sky is not falling. Brees will get paid....deservedly, but I think there will be some "give" there to make all the pieces fit. I have faith in our FO.

Chase Daniel sure does look a lot like Drew out there. Why not just let Drew walk, sign everybody else, give Chase # 9, and then wait and see how long it takes for people to realize it is not Drew!
