...Nicks said new contract has to be more than teammate J Evans $ 56.7 M dollar deal.

"had to be more than Evans 56 mil contract"

That's quite selfish of nicks to be honest, it ain't a competition who can have the biggest deal, is he turning out to be all about the money

alleycat_126 02-22-2012 04:58 AM

Be understanding of the player, greed is a part of the business. He must be greedy, because no one else will be for him. The team will undercut, and underpay when it can to keep who it can. He wants his deal to be more than Evans, it's standard practice and very understandable since that deal was done two years ago. He's probably headed for the tag though.

NFL Free Agents 2012: Carl Nicks Wants Enough Money To Buy "Mother ****ing Disneyland" - Turf Show Times

Tag him and develop his replacement for the year after. I love Nicks more than I do Evans... but with that said, interior lineman aren't that hard to replace. I just don't find it logical to invest such a gigantic sum of money into our interior line.

We could tag him, Draft his replacement with the 2nd or 3rd round pick and see if a team would pick him up, a bit of a gamble but could be a win, win, even if no one picked him up we drafted a replacement. I want to draft D with those picks but I want Brees on his feet more.

4th and 5th are the rounds where the Saints have success in drafting O-Linemen.

Offer him Evans' contract plus 1 dollar. We need to keep this guy.

You will see just how bad OC and LT are without him manning the left side.

He's more valuable to Drew Brees' protection than any LT in the league would be.

Don't be fooled by the traditional OG/OT values. You'll see a loy more games like the Rams and the 2010 Browns and Cardinals games.

Even better.

With those two guards, our castle tower to throw rocks is stonger, higher than the other guys; we can easily "fart in their general direction" because of this truly special line...

Don't forget that we thought we could replace Willie Roaf - and look how that turned out for us...

He left 2001 - we won the 2009 Season Championship - not exactly a springboard move...

I totally agree. They are expendable unless you have a Willie Roaf caliber lineman which he is not. I've watch Payton Manning do fine with an O line rebuilt almost entirely midway through the season with guys off the street. I want him back but not for that kind of money.

Budsdrinker 02-23-2012 07:39 AM

Well Loomis kind of asked for this with the contract they gave Evans. Nicks grades out higher than Evans so it is only right that he asks for more money. Personally I think it's too much money but all this started when you overpaid for Evans.

Exactly.

RaginCajun83 02-23-2012 08:48 AM

So after Nicks leaves, DLP moves to LG and Tennett starts at C .... yeah Loomis needs to get Drew's deal done soon so he can tag Nicks and at least keep him around one more year

Danno 02-24-2012 07:53 AM

I'd rather have Nicks than Evans.

Agreed with the 1st part, but not the 2nd.

I don't think we overpaid for Evans. He was the best OG in the NFL when we signed him to that contract.

Its what happens when you have the two best players at a position on the same team.

Because if Nicks gets the tag, as expected, there'd be more leverage available with Nicks for draft picks...

It would be a 10 million cap hit if we traded him. Losing Evans and losing 10 million in cap isn't worth what we'd get for him in draft picks.

Rugby Saint II 02-24-2012 03:32 PM

Nicks and Evans earned Maddens protector award. They Just brought Bushrod, DLP and Strief with them. Seriously though we can't afford to lose Nicks. Which is funny because it's hard to say we can afford to keep him.
