Rebuilding the Saints

The 2011-2012 season for the New Orleans Saints might be remembered as "the season that might have been." New Orleans would have won its first road playoff game and hosted the NFC Championship game, but the Saints were unable to hold a lead late against the San Francisco 49ers Jan. 14.
Now that the NFL season is over and the New York Giants are world champions again, football teams' attentions will shift to the draft and free agency. Every team has needs, but my focus here is on the Saints.

First order of business will be re-signing free-agent quarterback Drew Brees. Saints fans should not worry about Brees leaving, to paraphrase head coach Sean Payton. At age 33, Brees has few places to go that have a chance to win a title. New Orleans is the best place for him to win another championship. Brees might play for a maximum of seven more years. That would make him 40 years old. Brees needs to take less money and help the team keep key free agents.

This guys needs to take less money at his work place so they can create more jobs for other people. I wonder how this guy would feel about that. Drew Brees doesn't "need" to do anything but continue playing at the level he is. Whether he takes a discount or not is on him... but he deserves every penny coming to him. I think the author is also slighting Drew's talent by saying there's only a few place where he can go to have another chance to win a title. An elite franchise quarterback can make a lot of teams into becoming instant playoff contenders.

The author also seems misinformed to what Cam Jordan's strong suit was coming out of college. While his ability to rush the passer has been underwhelming(along with the rest of the team), he was not pegged at becoming any elite edge rusher. A lot of teams had him very high on their draft board because of his athleticism, versatility, and being a complete end. He's only been in the league for a year and to call him a bust is pretty stupid. To suggest the Falcons busted on Julio Jones is also ridiculous... all because he failed to perform in one game. The guys is going to be a hell of a player.

This article just rubs me the wrong way.

SapperSaint, ScottF and The Dude like this.

Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but some abuse the privilege.

All little common sense goes a long way.
