Saints To Franchise Drew?
 

The New Orleans Saints and quarterback Drew Brees still remain a ways apart in their efforts to produce a long-term contract, according to league sources.

If the two sides cannot make considerable progress from where they are today, the Saints will be forced to use their franchise tag on Brees by the Monday deadline.

If the Saints can get Brees signed to a long-term contract extension, they would have the flexibility to use their tag on another player. What makes this important is that the Saints have two other marquee free agents, wide receiver Marques Colston and Pro Bowl guard Carl Nicks.

But as it stands right now, the team and Brees are struggling to strike the deal that many around the league expected to be done by now.

I'll be pi$$ed off tremendously if we have to franchise Drew. It's unnerving.

Me too, If Brees' agent continues to want to rape the franchise instead of agreeing to a deal that benefits both sides then adios Drewboy... Go rape some other team.

I've said it before and I'll say it again... I'd be very shocked if they have to franchise Brees, because that solution would not serve neither sides' interests.

I'm going to let this drama play out, but if we use the tag on Brees everything gets interesting.

I never thought we'd be 5 days away from the Franchise Tag deadline with Drew still unsigned. If we have to use the Tag on Drew this could be a rough offseason.

If we do Franchise Drew I'll be very curious to see what this organization does. Do we keep working on a deal and risk losing out on free agents? Do we put Drew's contract negotiations on the back burner and pursue other free agents? I'm hoping we get something done before Monday because if we do Franchise Drew both sides lose.

This would be a disaster for so many reasons. Franchise tag on Brees = No Nicks, probably no Colston for next year.

I'm trying not to rush to judgement about my favorite player and my favorite team but this is really disheartening...borderline depressing; I thought everyone involved was better than this...

Likewise... very unnerving. I'm keeping the faith and not jumping to conclusions but if Drew is franchised then we're going to take a step back next year. No more Nicks and probably Colston too. We'll probably be able to move on without Colston but not being able to franchise Nicks is going to hurt.

Drew wanted to get rid of the Franchise Tag as a part of the new CBA. Now he might have to live bye it. Plus the money drops this year to about 15 million. Drew go see what your Agent is doing.

Get the deal done already.

Just don't think Drew will let this happen. He wants another ring and we are primed for it this season at home.

Sign the damn thing Drew!

Where before many of us were simply "not worried", I, for one, am now officially concerned. We can bash the writers for 'speculation' if we want, but at this point that speculation is well-warranted.

I'll be worried March 5th, and no sooner.

Successful Organizations
 

Get it done, seems like the good organizations find a way. Gotta be a way, that's why guys like Loomis makes the big $$$.

Any organization can have brief glimmers of success; our organization is on the precipice of defining itself, either as a team that was one and done, or a program that is able to withstand hardships such as bounty gate and free agencies. 5 March is an important date.

Meant it then, and still mean it now.

apathetic thats all this is Drew lost sight of the goal to win Championships! Never hear a word from Tom Brady or Payton Manning with their contract.

Yep, its a shame Brees isn't a team player. But we should have seen it coming based on how he constantly threw ownership under the bus during the CBA negotiations.
