Drew Brees deal could gut the Saints
1 Attachment(s)
Now, the price tag on all that is coming due. Brees is scheduled to become a free agent on March 13. He and the Saints are negotiating, but the reports indicate the two sides remain far apart. That, in itself is a little unbelievable because the parameters of this deal are obvious. Brees deserves to be the highest-paid player in NFL history.
He’s coming off a year in which he set the NFL record for passing yards in a season (5,476) and he should get at least as much as Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, who average $18 million per year. I have no doubt that, when all is said and done, Brees will remain with the Saints. If negotiations on a long-term deal continue to fail, the Saints will simply put the franchise tag on their franchise quarterback. But, either way, this is when we could begin to see the beginning of the end of the Saints as we know them. They’re not going to be the same team they were last season when they went 13-3. They might not even be the same team they were in 2010 when they went 11-5. And they certainly aren’t going to be the same team they were in the magical 2009 season when they won the Super Bowl. They’ll have their same quarterback and that’s a great start. But the economics of his contract mean the Saints aren’t going to have the same quality of players at a lot of other positions. That’s not Brees’ fault, or the team’s fault. It’s simply reality in the modern NFL. Drew Brees deal could gut the Saints - NFL Nation Blog - ESPN |

"It’s simply reality in the modern NFL."
And it simply sucks. |
Just swallow the medicine.
It tastes terrible, but it will make you feel better. (that's what it says on the label) |
If 100 million kills the team....
And Drew swears he's "All about the team"..... What the hell? I wish it was Monday already! |
Franchise Drew, sign matt flynn, trade drew to the browns for their 2 first rd picks, draft defense and resign nicks and colston.
or Pay drew 20 mil a year, lose Nicks and Colston, restructure smith and vilma and sign some defense studs I pick #2 |
Nobody thought very highly of many of these players until now. We have shown we can find players in the draft. No worries.

I don't think Matt Flynn is going to be cheap.
Somebody will need a bonified starter, and give him some green cheese. But he would be cheaper than Drew. ***I'm kidding!*** I remember when we played it cheap. Didn't like it then, and I wouldn't like it now. |
drew makes the recievers better...we dont have 1 DOMINENT WR(like AJ or CJ) because we dont need 1...Drew hits so many targets...all they have to do is run the patterns and catch the ball,,,they dont have to beat the DB cause Drew throws them open...I love Colston but 1st thing we need is DREW...second thing we need is Drew to be standing up not on his butt...Keep the O-line together at all costs
