Bounties from ex-players point of view

I kind of knew some of this stuff, but hearing them talk about what happens in a NFL locker room and the fact it should have never left the locker room, made me feel better. Hope it makes you guys feel better ...

I'd like to hear Lawrence Taylor's take on the whole thing really, but he's just out of recent trouble and is probably laying low. LOL

Great video

... puts a more realistic perspective on the whole 'bounty' issue and how player incentives are a part of the game with every team in the NFL. Cooler heads are beginning to prevail ...

Those guys layed it out about as honestly as players could.. It's what players did - and players do.
It's like playing for nickles and dimes on the golf course, just bigger nickels.
At the end of the day it's just pocket change, and more about the bragging rights.
Where would this game be without the "ooooh" of somebody getting blown up?
It's really bad timing and we are caught dead in the middle of it.

Wow, this is refreshing to see someone like Mike Golic saying that.
No matter what anyone says now, some ignorant piss ant fans wont agree and curse the Saints to hell. The media blew this so far out of proportion that it has created a false sense of what a bounty was for the Saints. I don't believe we saw any blatant, I'm going to F you up and send you to the hospital hits from the 09' to 11' season. The players were fined anyhow. We shouldn't have to suffer like Clayton and the other ass hats say we should.

I, for one, just don't get the mentality of defensive football players. Who gives a darn about a defensive play that symbolizes some preconceived definition as a "big play" or a "big hit"?! It's just a bunch of BS.

If I take on two blockers so a teammate has a wide-open opportunity to stop the offense, is that not also a great play?! What about a makeshift tackle which didn't involve much contact at all but got the job done and brought the ball-carrier to the ground in a big situation? Just this year, Drew Brees had a few of those touchdown-saving tackles which might have been the difference in the game, and he wasn't even on defense!!! Shouldn't he get "bounty money" too then?!

Just how in the hell is this bounty system then encouraging real teamwork on the field?! Our defense should be focused on winning games, not on these false accolades and locker room dick-measuring. What about personal pride and accountability and not letting the other team score on your team? I don't care what sport you play, team or solo, as a competitor the scoreboard is the only measurement or stat you should ever know. Perhaps, strictly on this basis, I am a better coach than Gregg Williams.

Seems to me all the offensive lineman and offensive skill players don't need all this coddling and hokey rewards system. Maybe now we know why defense in the NFL is so freaking bad.

I get your point, but to me it's all about being the alpha male within the group. And what is the most effective way of showing the other members of the group that you're the alpha male - by physical dominance, and that is why "big plays" and especially "big hits" are glorified among defensive players, at least in my opinion.

My own experience through sports is that there is a fundamental difference in the overall mindset of those who are deemed offensive players as opposed to those who are deemed defensive players - and that difference becomes even more magnified in contact sports.
