Too many rules not enough fun
The game of football has come a long way since the leather helmets. At that time there were fewer restrictions about "player safety"(which is another word for covering your butt from a law suit). The sport was designed to be played by men against other men and score points. There weren't enough points being scored so they started making it more offense friendly. That brought us to where we are today.
When I started playing rugby each team fielded 15 players and had only one referee. Who missed lots of action after the ball was away. Stomping a player was part of the game. If there was a body between you and the ball you busted it up! That was the mindset. btw if you knocked a player out of the game the other team played short, no replacement allowed. Tell me that didn't motivate hard hits!! I would still choose to play recklessly rather than safely. It's just more fun! RANT OVER!:bng: |

The equipment has advanced so much and the players are so much bigger, stronger, faster then back in the day. They're like missiles out there. I'd like to see a return to where they play not so protected, like in rugby. It has a way of the game policing itself up without the need for lawsuits & investigations. |
It's the reason we watch. I guarantee you that if they were playing 2 hand touch...same guys...nobody would watch.
