Jonathan Vilma causes brief stir
New Orleans linebacker Jonathan Vilma caused a bit of a stir Thursday morning on his verified Twitter account.
Vilma Vilma caused a panic among New Orleans fans when he tweeted “Finally... freedom!!’’ That’s a natural reaction, because Vilma is one of the team’s most popular players but has been the subject of widespread speculation that he could be released because he has a high salary-cap figure. But Vilma came back quickly and said he hasn’t been cut. “Freedom from these crutches ... relax lol,’’ Vilma said in his follow-up tweet. Still, that second tweet raised another question. Why was Vilma on crutches? He had knee surgery during the season. Did he have another operation after the season? If so, that could only add to the speculation about his future with the Saints. This is a team with serious salary-cap issues. Vilma seemed slow when he was playing last season, and as he approaches 30, you have to wonder whether his knee problems could be chronic. He still could be a cap casualty before the start of free agency next week. At the very least, he’s a candidate to have his contract restructured. NFC South Blog - ESPN Makes you wonder about the knees. He seriously needs to restructure. If he don't we may need to let him go. |
Everybody is just too quick to think there's more bad news coming.

Well played Vilma.

Maybe he finally received those bionic knee implants he had ordered from Japan?
He'll be unstoppable next season... |

I'm just skeptical that he'll ever be healthy at his age and his cap figure is pretty high. Besides, several of us pooled our money for thread bounties. I won 3 dollars because of your reply.:p |

That is what we need more of. Things are getting way too serious around here lately. |
I think he could get cut depending on how many games he gets suspended for.
Carrying someone for a year or even half a season when you can use the roster spot for someone who can contribute... hmm. |

I think I'll have to get the administrators involved, because I suspect there was intention behind trying to hurt my feelings! http://smileys.on-my-web.com/reposit...my-eye-302.gif Quote:
If he can play at the early 2010 level, he wouldn't be overpaid in my opinion, since $6.6M is less than what other leading LBs are making in the league. |
