Tracy Porter possibly re-signs with Saints?
|
Well, one can interpret those tweets in any which way one wants.
Hardly evidence of an imminent re-signing. |
I think he's coming back. Just my opinion. Of course I also thought Brees would sign a multi-year contract prior to getting tagged. Sooo...I wouldn't put any salt into anything I say.
|
... NFL players should be banned from using twitter, period.. none of that even made sense
|
Personally I would like to see him walk. Hasnt done much since the SB.

Agreed, I'd like for them to bring in someone young, hungry, and most of all cheap to replace him. |
Wouldn't Robinson be the natural replacement and probably without much if any of a downgrade. Then look to draft one, provided the Saints don't lose any picks when discipline comes down from the NFL.

I think Johnny Patrick may be our new NB. |
I'd like to see him stick around; see what Flajole can do with him...

Well, Robinson already replaced Porter last season as the #2 CB on the roster. Porter would be the nickel in all likelihood, and he'd have to battle Patrick for that spot. If nothing drastic happens during the FA period, the draft, the camps, and the OTAs - the starting CB pair will be Greer and Robinson. But, the Saints still need to have more depth at the CB position in the coming season, so that is where re-signing Porter might be a valid option if he is willing to re-sign to an affordable deal. Also, we don't know what Spags, Flajole, and Curtis are looking to do with the secondary, so they might be looking to do some changes in the personnel. |

Playing on the outside hasn't done him any favors either for the last 2 seasons. Porter causes so many pass interference calls because he's little and climbs receivers to break up passes.

Resigning him would be smart. His numbers went down last year so we would get him for cheaper then what he is worth. You can never have enough corners.

I would actually like to see him stay.... There are a few instances like porter where I have to wonder..... Is is Porter or it is GW?
|
I'm with Danno and others on this. I have felt all along that we have decent talent on the D side, it was just the way GW used them. Some coaches tailor their scheme around the type of talent they have and some...well some just do whatever the hell they want no mater who is playing. Not mentioning any names Greg Williams. Oops, did I just say a name?
I say let's see what Spags and company can do with them. |

I doubt that very much. He is the most likely Saints' FA to be over-payed by another team, because many still remember him as the "Manning-killer" from the Super Bowl - that'll probably diminish the effect of his actual stats. The Saints' FO have a figure in mind for which they would be willing to re-sign Porter, but it's very likely that some other team will offer Porter more - then it's just a matter of whether Porter wants to remain a Saint or follow the money. |

Porter is good. He's no Deon Sanders, I get that, but the fact is....WE HAVE NO PASS RUSH!!. Even during the SB pick, as Boomer stated...
"They brought everybody" and still, they got nowhere near Manning. Porter read that route like a Road Scholar. Get him a little help up front and he can make plays is what i say. I'd even say that for all our CB's. They are simply not getting much help in that dept. |

They're all small, but at least Greer and Robinson have better verticals than Porter, which might explain some of that perceived technical weakness ChrisXVI was talking about. Combine results for the vertical leap: Robinson: 39.0 inches Greer: 36.5 inches Porter: 34.0 inches Patrick: 32.0 inches Average vertical leap for a corner from the past 4 year's combines and pro-day results is ~36.82 inches. |

I'm pretty sure he won't cost much and he's shown he has the talent. I think it would be a solid signing if he's not asking for too much. |

If he could be returned to a friendly cap number, why not bring him back?
And with the changes in the coaching staff, he may get back on track... |
I really believe that Tracy is a good DB. I think he let a lot of the media hype about him go to his head. If he comes cheap, I'm all for the re-signing of him. If he wants big money.... thanks for the INT in the SB!
