Good luck to ya Meachem. I will always remember how clutch you were in that Redskins game in 09.

YES! Without Meach, we lose that game, without a doubt.
I think he missed his calling as a free safety.

Anyway, I appreciate his time here, but I think we all expected him to go elsewhere.

SmashMouth 03-14-2012 12:25 AM

Well... Here is one compensatory pick for us.

alexonfyre 03-14-2012 12:27 AM

Well, I will be rooting for at least one AFC team this year, until they play the Saints of course.

alleycat_126 03-14-2012 12:58 AM

Best of luck to you Meach, I'll have to take the BIG off of that nickname now since you are going to another team.

Crusader 03-14-2012 01:22 AM

Ah well, after us getting Brees and Sproles from the Chargers I guess this isn't more than fair. He is the one WR I actually could stand to lose, a 1st round WR who never really played up to expectations.

Good luck Meach!

Turbo Saint 03-14-2012 01:23 AM

awesome...hopefully he rounds the corner in SD. guess i'll help my friends out here root for him hah.

lee909 03-14-2012 01:34 AM

Best of luck to him

Belair57 03-14-2012 01:58 AM

I will miss him..I hope he does well, he WILL NOT replace V jacks though.

BOLTS4LIFE 03-14-2012 02:11 AM

Hated losing Jackson today but I like this signing!

SAINTstunna 03-14-2012 02:28 AM

Screw the injury prone BASTARD... MEACHEM can take this with him to SAN DIEGO!!!!! :needle:

SaintFanQ 03-14-2012 03:40 AM

Why?

I wish all the best for Meachem in SD, but he'll undoubtedly learn fairly quickly the difference between Brees/Payton and Rivers/Turner offense, and it won't be a pleasant discovery.

And it's far too early to be talking about compensatory picks after only one day of FA period in the books. If the Saints are stripped of their draft picks - or at least some of them - they'll make most of their moves in the FA market and, therefore, they'll acquire more talent than they'll lose.

Compensatory picksIn addition to the 32 picks in each round, there are a total of 32 picks awarded at the ends of Rounds 3 through 7. These picks, known as "compensatory picks," are awarded to teams that have lost more qualifying free agents than they gained the previous year in free agency. Teams that gain and lose the same number of players but lose higher-valued players than they gain also can be awarded a pick, but only in the seventh round, after the other compensatory picks. Compensatory picks cannot be traded, and the placement of the picks is determined by a proprietary formula based on the player's salary, playing time, and postseason honors with his new team, with salary being the primary factor. So, for example, a team that lost a linebacker who signed for $2.5 million per year in free agency might get a sixth-round compensatory pick, while a team that lost a wide receiver who signed for $5 million per year might receive a fourth-round pick.

If fewer than 32 such picks are awarded, the remaining picks are awarded in the order in which teams would pick in a hypothetical eighth round of the draft (These are known as "supplemental compensatory selections").

Compensatory picks are awarded each year at the NFL annual meeting which is held at the end of March; typically, about three or four weeks before the draft.

I think this could net us a 3 or 4.

I guess there's a theory of interchangeability lurking in the FO...

Like most players who would leave this offense.
Just enjoy and make good use of that money.

MistaBigXXL 03-14-2012 10:17 AM

I too will miss Meachem...That play against Washington is unforgettable.

Good luck buddy!

Rugby Saint II 03-14-2012 12:07 PM

I hope he prospers and doesn't take two years to learn the play book like he did here. Best wishes.........and don't drop the ball.
