Hello, THE NFL IS VIOLENT!!!
I don't know if this was ever posted, but I thought I share this story involving this so-called "Bounty-Gate"......
The NFL is Violent. Duh. - Turf Show Times |
I can't count how many times that I was told to "Rub some dirt on it and get back in there!"

Maybe if they took away all the pads and the helmets that can be used as a weapon players would play with less reckless abandon. I'm all for going back to the leather helmets.
I have a sneaky suspicion the game would be less violent. |

With millions on the line these barbarians would hit just as hard without a helmet as they would with one. And lets face it, many of them can't spell cat if you spotted them the K and the A. |
There is some truth to his statement though... if they had leather helmets THEY WOULDN'T LEAD WITH THEIR HELMETS SO MUCH.

If you took out the violence, it would be as exciting as baseball.

I, for one, already think the whole thing is suspect, at best.
1. Why would the No Fun League do a 3-year investigation on the team for illegal hits with the possibility of an opposing player getting severely injured during that time frame? Yeah, the Saints would get it bad, but the league would get it worse and they can't afford that. 2. 50,000 PAGES.......FOR REAL?!?!?!? That's almost a third of a library!! 3. Where were the flipp'n flags that the Zebra Squad were supposed to throw, if there were illegal hits? 4. If the No Fun League knew about this, why did it took three years to nip it in the bud? And, oh....... 5. How do we know if other teams were set to do the same to Brees, Ben R., Peyton Manning or Tom Brady? |

Why is it that "professional football player" is the only career where you can voluntarily put your safety at risk for lots of money, and then sue for more money if you actually get hurt?
Why does everyone involved want to play a game that is popular because it is dangerous and flashy, take out the danger and the flash and then expect to still be popular and to make the same amount of money? Why is the only solution to the problem "punish the very people you are trying to protect" instead of "improve the gear," "require longer injury times" or "add a second bye week?" None of this makes any sense to me. |
