Check out Carl Nicks reason for going to Tampa Bay
“The run game, man,’’ Nicks said, when asked what attracted him to the Bucs. “No disrespect to our team (the Saints), but we’re pass first, pass second, pass third, pass fourth, fifth and sixth team and maybe some runs at the end. The Saints have great running backs. But here it’s a little different. We’ve got a big bruiser (LeGarrette Blount). We’re going to pound the ball, pound the ball and go over the top.’’
Nicks: Bucs can have best guard combo - NFC South Blog - ESPN I wonder how how he will feel when he realizes the reason the Bucs run so much is because they CAN'T pass!! |
Not very surprising. Passblocking just isn't that much fun when you play O-line.
|
All Nicks will be is the newest member that Josh Freeman and other Bucs can argue with on national television.

if you were to knock anything about Nicks as a OG it would be his pass blocking. nit picking but it is the area he lacks in a bit. stunts do get him once in a while. going to be a heck of a whole to fill. OC last season and now OG this year
|
The run game has nothing to do with it, he's all about the MONEY. If he really wanted to get back to the playoffs or be on a team that actually has the potential to go back to the Superbowl he would have kept his ass put here in New Orleans.
|
I am not too sure about that B005ted... 16 games with a team that focuses on something that is your weak point can be exhausting.
|
Will get some objective evidence now that he'll have Josh Freeman throwing for him...
|
well, he had to say something...
he obviously knows freeman, who has really dropped off since his rookie year, isnt near what brees is. and their run game isnt that good either, legarret blount was benched at the end of the season |
Yes, he will be missed...money is the biggest reason for leaving. And, big guys don't like moving their feet much. Pass blocking requires "reactive" foot movement. That takes a lot out of an OL overtime. Run blocking requires you to go to a certain spot and block a certain guy, so it's more planned out than pass blocking, plus it gives them a chance to showcase their strength and throw their weight around.
|
... Nicks talks a lot, but he doesn't really say that much, know what I mean? Good luck riding LeGarrette Blount all the way to the SuperBowl, big fella' ... I'd say right about midseason he'll be remembering what it was like to play for a 'pass-first, pass-second, pass-third' team and be wishing he was back there ... just sayin'.
|
He went there because of the money, but he is right about our philosophy. It's infuriating to watch for three and a half quarters as we pass the ball 75% of the time and then get a few more runs in at the end to make it appear that we're semi-balanced. We're loaded at running back and we used a first round pick on Ingram last year. POUND THE ROCK!
|
I don't understand... We ran for over 2,000 yards last season. So is he saying he wants more run plays but with a team that makes less yardage? That's not too smart because it says 'I want mine'. He formed part of a good O Line for us but I was disappointed in his comments. If it is for the money, say it's for the money. If it is because you like the way the Bucs roll, say it. But don't disrespect the team you left behind just because it wasn't all about you. Remember when Brees threw for over 5,000 yards the first time? Not one receiver got over 1,000 yards but did you hear them whine and kvetch? No you didn't. Disappointed in you Mr Nicks.
|
I don't really buy into this being the true reason for him going to Tampa. We all know it was about the money. IMO these comments are a bit personal and I hope that he ends up pass blocking even more, because the bucs will always be playing from behind.
|
The funny thing was that he said "We don't really have anybody getting 20 carries a game" (speaking of the Saints, still in present tense) "Reggie might get 7, Pierre gets 11, Ingram gets like 10...Here Legarette is going to run the ball 20+ times a game."
Well...that means that the Saints generally run the ball over 30 times a game (once you count our gadget plays and stuff) which is actually much rarer with a one-back team. |

Payton's schemes have never been one size fits all. I used to wonder why PT screens looked so good and Reggie's were the ugly bubble thing. He just answered my long standing question about why running was so ineffective at times. They would never get in a groove. They would never establish control of the line of scrimmage. Pass blocking is defensive. They are on their heels trying to keep defenders at bay. Run blocking puts you on your toes with the defender on his heels. That's got to be the preferred posture and mind set for an O-lineman. It's very difficult to flip that switch when you've been on your heels for most of the day. Nick's was just talking because he was asked. It wasn't politically correct to say "The Money". You guys know that. Give him a break. He's got to start jell'in with a whole new crew..."What's up fellas! I'm just here for the money". C'mon. Good luck CNicks. I hope it all works out for you... Except against the Black&Gold. |

The Saints offense is so good because everyone's job is hard, and they do it very well. |

It couldn't have been that hard to get into a groove knowing that we've ranked as one of the best offenses in the NFL the past gazillion years... then parlaying that into becoming the highest paid guard in the NFL.
I'm sure it was an awful time. |
I wonder how much money it takes to make losing feel alright?
$9.5 million, I assume. Wonder exactly how he'll grade out now that he's protecting a marginal quarterback with a so-so supporting cast. |
i don't know why these guys don't just admit to going to the highest bidder. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. There's a huge difference between 8 mil and 9 mil.

The Ravens ran 64% of their offense behind Grubbs, guess we're trading down...........whatever. Bye Carl, good luck.
|
Wasn't LeGarrette Blount benched last year?
|
All the time. I think he might have had one game with 20 carries.
Edit - Nevermind he had 3. http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/gamelo...arrette-blount |
It's a loss for us, good player!

Enjoy that money Carl.
I was thinking you already had money. What you really needed was another Ring, but oh well. |
How did Tampa work out for Jeff Fanie
|
:doh:What did y'all expect him to say? Hey man, I came down to Tampa for the money? We all know that's why he went, well that, the beach and the babes
|
Like we dont have babes in Louisiana....
|
Don't know do ya. Didn't have that many when I was living there.
|
just walk around the Dome on game day....
....or any small town. I swear Many, Louisiana had more beautiful women per capita than any major U.S. city. So did Zwolle, but then you had to deal with some jealous badazz holding a pool stick. love them country girls. |
