Meachem on 105.3 San Diego this morning

Boy this guy had NOTHING to say. It was so awkward, they made fun of him after he hung up. They were reaching for questions.

MistaBigXXL 03-15-2012 09:54 AM

New Chargers WR, Robert Meachem, joined Alex and Gil on Late Hits to talk about signing in San Diego - SiriusXM Sports

It did sound a bit awkward. He said umm a lot and spoke very monotonous.

I don't think he's comfortable speaking publicly.

dizzle88 03-15-2012 10:12 AM

Watch Meachems draft day interview once we selected him on youtube

The guy is not a very good speaker, he says umm and repeats himself alot.

Thanks for everything Meach, Lets hope for the Chargers Fans' sake you don't take as long to learn their playbook as you did with ours.....2 years

Tobias-Reiper 03-15-2012 10:26 AM

.. still don't understand this want for athletes not only to be articulated in front of a microphone, but for them to say the "right" things.

I mean, what can Meachem say?
"I'm happy to be in SD".
"SD is built to win now"
"The fans in SD are great"
..yeah..

"Well, SD gave me the contract that gives me the most guaranteed cash"... now that (maybe) would be worth listening to.

papz 03-15-2012 10:34 AM

Like Colston, was never a public or outspoken guy... I consider it a good thing.

SaintsBro 03-15-2012 10:45 AM

I just don't get all this constant ragging, snarky comments and dishing trash on guys who leave the Saints -- I sure would not want to work with any of you people if this is how you treat someone after they leave the building

No kidding, I'm not a fan of any of this stuff, particularly the things that were said about Nicks on twitter.

darstep 03-15-2012 11:42 AM

All of these guys have to say something.
Cameras, microphones, phone calls for every new contract that gets inked.
Accentuate the positives...lay the foundation for some great new relationships.
The money is great but they can't say it, at least not like a fool would say it.
Even if you like her just for her body, You don't say it!
and it might be true, but you just don't say it.
I'm glad none of them have been stupid enough to say "I'm doing it for the money!"
well at least not yet.

That's right. They only get one chance at a big deal and they have to take it. It isn't easy to leave and it just makes it worse to get treated like crap from the only fans you have known. It is very low class treatment by supposed fans.

NOS2SB 03-15-2012 12:15 PM

Um, I'm going to, um, leave this, um, conversation, um, to you, um guys..

228jits 03-15-2012 12:16 PM

He got to capitalize on a great "business" decision. I think he would have preferred to be in NO, but the money that was thrown his way he would NOT have recieved anywhere else. Good luck with Rivers!!

Wrong, Colston is intelligent, articulate and does speak publicly when he feels it is necessary - Colston is just not a drama queen...

I am so happy we kept Colston and replaced Nicks with a friendlier cap number...

JimmyB1775 03-15-2012 12:54 PM

Ragging? Hardly. I was ragging the SD radio station for talking trash on their new WR immediately after the interview. I already know a lot of players wouldn't even graduate college if they weren't football players and treated like them. I wouldn't expect Meachem to be a good speaker. I would expect a radio station to treat him like that, and perhaps his agent or PR guy (if he has one) to teach him to give a minimum 20 word answer to everything.

Uhh... so what part of what I said was wrong?

I said that Meachem is a not public person nor is he outspoken... which are traits that makes him Colston. I made no mention if I thought Meachem was intelligent or well spoken. You've got to brush up on that reading comprehension buddy.

The nerve.

JimmyWalker 03-15-2012 01:38 PM

I for one am going to miss Meachem catching those beautiful long bombs from Brees! Good luck to him and I hope he becomes a star!

Rugby Saint II 03-15-2012 02:37 PM

Now you've got a ring and money.....enjoy them and thank you!

Danno 03-15-2012 04:19 PM

Maybe if he had a teleprompter and someone else wrote his answers for him so that all he had to do was read he'd sound much more intelligent and people would think he's one of the smartest people on the planet.

But alas, he's a football player.

On 3rd and 12 he doesn't have to perform into a microphone.

You set 'em up and I knock 'em down!

We might have to take this comedy show on the road one of these days. :-)

Speedy Ron 03-15-2012 08:59 PM

he is a complete and utter idiot. its not that he doesnt have much to say he is just too stupid to make conversation. his mental capacity should have been evident when he was a 1st round pick and couldnt sniff the field for 2 years

QBREES9 03-15-2012 11:36 PM

LOL not a good speaker at all. Good luck with the Chargers. Will see you in a few years. After AJ lets you go. LOL
