Curtis Lofton to visit Saints
Larry Holder @LHolderCBS
Falcons FA LB Curtis Lofton is scheduled to visit the #Saints, two sources confirm. https://twitter.com/#!/LHolderCBS |
He was the guy I wanted when he was drafted. I was crushed when the Falcons selected him.
|
Part of me only wants us to sign him just to say *#&@ you to the FalClowns!
|
I wish we could steal at least one or two GOOD guys from ATL or TB...tired of them reaching into our cookie jar!!!

This is the guy we need!! He is a leader on the field and not a problem in the locker room!
|
This is a good thing !

That being said, his celebration may be a product of just being in Atlanta, and their culture... Look at White and Grimes........ |
My guess is he's a back up plan if we don't sign Hawthorne.
|
Think about how awesome the LBs could be if we signed Lofton.
WLB Vilma MLB Lofton SLB Wilson I can only hope this happens. Would be the Saints' best LB corp since the Dome Patrol. |

I'd personally prefer: WLB Woodyard MLB Hawthorne SLB Wilson |
Lofton, IMO, is the best FA LB available. Hawthorne is a distant second.
|
Quote:
I don't know about the distant part, but Lofton is ranked higher than Hawthorne, and that is why Lofton will probably ask for more money than Hawthorne, which is the reason I chose Hawthorne over Lofton. This way they might have some money left over (from Vilma's and others' releases) to maybe go after Woodyard. |
Lofton has been healthier than Hawthorne...
Now it's Sunday > is there something to announce? Such as there will be announcement of an announcement on Monday? |
Is there any new news on the LB search...?

I do hope that they sneak in a DT at the 3rd or the 4th. |
I think he could be Vilma's replacement. He needs to go has digressed and surely going to the main one suspended. Lofton is good.
|
So where are we with Lofton?
Waiting for the market to realized itself to him? |
no, the nfl is trying to ruin the saints so they suspend our contract negotiator.

Seriously, though...
Where are we with Lofton? Is the FP waiting for the market to convince himself of the reality of what his current earning potential? |
I sure hope we offer him a monster contract and lock him up for five years. The guy's a beast!
|
a montster contract? We were 1.28 million under the cap before the Chamberlain signing...

Don't forget Drew wants another 5 million...

The Chamberlain Signing clearly doesn't mean that much, We wanted Hawthorne chamberlain knows the defense though, Shanle should be released in the coming days.

I'm not totally convinced that the Saints will be cutting Vilma, because it all depends on what type of a punishment (if any) he'll get for his involvement in the BountyGate, and what his health situation is now and going forward. Like I've already stated in other threads, if Vilma gets a year-long suspension, financially the best course of action for the Saints would be to keep him as a player, because that way they'd free up the most salary cap room. If he can play at (at least) a 95% level this coming season and he doesn't get suspended, I do think that the Saints should go forward with him as the starting MLB, because once again it would probably end up being financially the best way to go. Jonathan Vilma playing at a 100% health level (i.e. 2009) would definitely be worth the $6.6M cap hit, IMO. |
