PFT-Free agency winners and losers

7. Loser: Saints.

With Bountygate lingering, the Saints had even more reason to work out a new, long-term deal with Drew Brees. And yet the Saints continue to fail to find a middle ground with their franchise quarterback.

There’s a chance Brees simply wants too much. But here’s the problem: He deserves it. The best NFL quarterback of the last six years, if he wants to max out his contract, then he should.

And as to the idea that he needs to leave some money behind so that the Saints can field a competitive team given the salary cap, here’s one important point: It never stopped the Colts from being competitive when Peyton got every last dollar he could.

And while it’s good that the Saints kept receiver Marques Colston, they lost Robert Meachem. And while it’s good that they lured Ben Grubbs away from Baltimore, the lost Carl Nicks.

More importantly, they’ve yet to do anything to address needs on defense, which could become even more significant once the suspensions come down.

So basically he says if Brees wants too much, he deserves it? Uhh, if he deserves it then its not too much is it?

Here's a thought you Dolt... How about paying him what his market value is. We shouldn't underpay him and certainly shouldn't overpay. Perhaps we're offering a maxed out contract right now, and its still not enough.

Here's some questions I'm sure this moron can't answer...

1. How much did we offer him?
2. How much is he asking for?
3. What exactly is Drew Brees worth?

I can probably guess this jackhole's answers...
1. Not enough.
2. More than what he was offered.
3. Whatever he wants.

PFT and Florio - where simpletons collide.

Ask yourselves this question - Where does Mike Florio, a former lawyer and wanna-be agent get his information?

He's gotta be Tom Condon's kid; getting Condon whatever he needs in the media for leverage...

Call the circus boy out...

Look Drew deserves to get paid...

But at the expense of absorbing the franchise salary cap?

Thereby, defeating what he's trying to accomplish > win the championship, contending each and every year...

Tom Condon is the devil Drew...

Worth too much? heh! You are worth what you are worth... thats a value based description.. Not some jackasses idea of a dollar ammount.

They might be pulling the trigger kind of early on FA evaluations, because there are a lot of FAs still on the market and a lot of days to conduct visits and negotiations with them.

It's not always the big name/dollar FAs a team brings in, but if they bring in the right FAs who suit their system and make it better going forward.

Another zombie writing a column. He's obviously brain dead. Give him a break.

For some reason the media never seems to be able to grasp this simple concept when it comes to player contracts: a team should sign players based on what they project that player to produce over the life of the contact; not based on what they've done historically. Yes Bree's has been incredible and has been the savior of this franchise... but we need to pay him what we think he's going to be worth when he's 34, 35, 36, 37, and 38. Here's a hint: he's likely not going to be as good as he was in his late 20s and early 30s.

just hope it don't get ugly, drew brees is the back bone here, but bank rupting the saints could linger for years to come. he has to know this is for his own good also. he needs solid blockers for him to be successful. he 's seen what our defense has become. we need money to lure studs here if its all on him were back on our heels already.
