Player Suspensions
Okay now we know what Mr. Gooddell brought on the organisation, what du you think the ruling for indiviual players will be? How severe and how long?
I think anything more than 5 games would insane! Haynesworth got 5 games for stomping on a players head, Suh got 2 games last year. So I conclude: Vilma 5 games Harper 2 games (late hit on Smith) But as for the rest of the current defense? If so the league would have to punish Fujita and co! |
Hoping for the best, expecting the worst.
But it doesn't matter, I'll still be watching the games even if Billy Joe Shuler is starting at strong safety. |
What´s hoping for the best? What´s expecting the worst? What players are we even talking about.
|
I think the players association will make a strong case for fines and claim that the players were worried Williams would bench/release them if they didn't take part.
Vilma will be the sacrificial lamb IMO,he will get a long ban maybe 8-10 games,if not the whole season. I don't think they can do much to Haroet as the have allready disciplined him or will have found him innocent of late hits. |
I think the suspensions will be too big, just like Sean P. Whole season for Vilma is my guess.

The can OLNY take actions on players they have PROOF of that participated..... otherwise the NFLPA will have a field day with this.... Lets not go getting all NFL Network and throwing people onto the pile that there is no proof of... Like saying there was a bounty on Rogers....
They either take action on players they had PROOF of or they have to take action in blanket form.... any ever every Defensive player that was on the Saints roster 2009-2011. The catch on GW/Payton/Loomis was that they had proof of GW who admitted and Payton and Loomis fell as management chain of accountability. |
How many players are still under contract and on other team rosters.
Fujita and U. Young are with Cleveland Remi was just released from Minnesota Player suspensions may affect more than the Saints. The coaching suspensions affected both the Saints and Rams (Fisher's comments state Williams punishment was warranted, but not so sure they "knew nothing" about what was coming. |
Players Union won't allow for a steep penalty imo. It'll start a snitch fest around the league.
|
Vilma's careers is over.
8-10 games maybe a year! We'll have to cut him to free up a roster spot... then who is going to sign him to let him sit out those games waiting for the suspension to be over. |
Vilma is coming off of minor surgery. We can possibly place him on PUP list while he serves his suspension. He'll probably be the only one suspended because of the alleged $10,000 bounty on Farve if that is proven true. All other personal foul hits have been fined already so I don't think they will add to it and the more severe hits were done by McCray to Farve and Warner so no one is left on the team that it could affect in my opinion. but then again no one knows what the all high Goddell is thinking right about now.

I predicted Goodell would make an example of us, but not to this extent.
Late hits and other on field infractions have already been dealt with. Any player penalties that come down would be based on player involvement in putting monies in the hat or from collecting payments from said hat. They already know who those players are and how much they collected. Suspensions and fines will be based on that eveidence. In my opinion, based on performance, some of these guys ought to be giving that money back anyway, but that's a whole different thread. I just hope Goodell fells that he's already made his point. |
So far the only name dropped is Vilma, watch Hitler ban him too .... outside of McCray, who else would he go after?
|
Shefty mentioned there were 4 names on Mike and mike this am. I heard Vilma, fujita, will smith, and didn't hear the last person. But there were 4 according to Shefty

And I would be Very surprised if Vilma gets less than a year. They have plenty of proof on the players as well from what I gather.

I wonder if bringing in Lofton and Hawthorne and that 3rd LB is because we knew Vilma would not be available
can a suspended player be cut? |
So from 22-25 players, down to 4 .... sounds about right
|
I see basically Vilma takin a "Gregg Williams" in this situation.
|
We still have Drew and the offense in tact. The defense sucked anyway. Give these young bucks a chance to step up. We may be surprised. What could it hurt at this point?
|
I bet Vima is gone for a year. Hell if they gave that to Coach why wouldn't they do that to Vilma.
|
Well and the whole "10000 on Favre" seems to be the smoking gun. Hargrove didn't help him much with the now famous "Favre is out the game" clip! That craps going to follow us for ever!
|
Yeah they show that over and over !

Vilma is in big doo-doo. I reckon suspended for a year.
Others? Well the other profile 3; maybe 6 games. Plus a game suspension for EACH fine for violent play in the period 2009-2011 to the (then) Saints player involved. |
will he count as zero against the cap?
|
Quote:
Once players begin suspension, they DO NOT count against the cap. |

The Saints would free up more cap if Vilma was suspended then they would if they cut Vilma - a suspended player's base salary will not be counted towards the salary cap, only bonuses, which in Vilma's case would only amount to a $1.2M cap hit freeing up $5.4M in cap space. |
Yes but didn't they say the players penalties were going to take "a while"? I bet they wait till after free agency. There is no way the NFL will let this situation benefit us in any way....

Yes, but the trade deadline isn't until mid-October, so there'll probably be some opportunities to bolster the roster even after the official FA period. |
Nobody has really mentioned Roman Harper, or maybe they mentioned him earlier and I missed it, but I am sure he is going to get something thrown at him. Based on what they did to Payton and Williams, I'm thinking he gets like a year and it gets talked down to 8 or 12.
Just like the fines on James Harrison, this is going to be ALL about singling out the players the NFL doesn't "like." Fujita for example, will get only a slap on the wrist, if anything, probably nothing done to him at all, because he is articulate and well-liked by the media etc. |
