In all seriousness, we could do with Brees being signed. How many of us would feel that clouds would be starting to lift if we sealed the deal. It must happen if we are to rise out of this mess. And to get Lofton would be a massive bonus too. Come on Loomis and co. Before you start your suspensions, GET IT DONE.

Agreed. I was hoping for David Hawthorne or Lofton. Mainly Hawthorne, but I'd take either, gladly, over what we currently have. This Chamberlain sign makes no sense to me. Maybe they don't think they can afford better than him, but from what I have read about this guy, we're better off with the LB's already in place.

Shanle has a 3 million cap hit. This guy will probably replace him for pennies on the dollar. That frees up money elsewhere.

Saints-Loomis needs to sign Brees top a base pay for two-years of something really good and then incentives, whatever. He needs a guaranteed huge pay . Two yrs. contract.

Brees has earned a pay for his rank in the league. Work on the Saints. He has to be paid his worth. This is really insulting to him. A real kick in the asz. Making him the laughing stock of the NFL. Timmy Tebow is getting a huge pay and red carpet welcoming in NY-Jets and he is not a proven NFL qb.

True, but I already consider Shanle and Vilma all but officially gone. I'm not worried about cap space, I'm talking about how Chamberlain stacks up next to other guy's on the roster who he would be competing with. Chamberlain sounds like a special teams player to me, which is exactly what he was until last year. So if the Saints are serious about upgrading, this isn't the answer.

So I'm hoping Chamberlain is just somebody they wanted to give them depth.

Chamberlain is somebody that knows Spags system. He has proven himself on special teams and had pretty decent stats as a starter last year. In fact, he had better stats than Shanle did...

If he can come in and relieve Shanle of his job while saving money, I'm all for it..

I think we can count out a contract for Brees. After the Loften signing how the hell can we afford to with our cap space?

releases/restructures/suspensions all will free up cap space and Loomis just finds ways to make it work...

There's no way we can work out a max deal with Brees until ALL of the other pieces are in place. Then, and only then, will the very best deal for both parties be made.

The question really is.. when will that be? Sooner than later I hope

The problem with that is we needed a significant upgrade. If it were about money, they could have restructured Shanle. But it was about performance, as to why we needed to replace him, and to get a guy who is the same or marginally better was not going to help enough to notice.

But as we all know now, the Saints signed Lofton, so I'm ok with Chamberlain being a role player.
