I DO have a problem with an elected official who's more concerned with something like this Bountygate issue instead of working on the government to keep it smaller and to spend no more than its reasonable revenues... |
I wasn't aware of the SB being in a team city. I'm also not a tax expert but from everything I've read the last couple of decades the impact isn't as large as most believe. Rep Cameron Henry needs to find something more constructive to do with his service than fighting this lost battle. How about fighting for more tax revenue from oil and gas that the Feds steal from us or going after BP in his backyard and their eagerness to tie things up in court for 10 years.

Add the charitable donations from the players and coaches... I have yet to see anyone's children running around with ikea jerseys on. The "total" ROI on the Saints has yet to be mapped from what it sounds like. Add the post Katrina era and the renewed vigor in the city that you can not put a $ value on and there is tremendous value in the Saints that has yet to be realized. |

I doubt that it will, since it seems that most of the fans are rallying instead of abandoning, but the potential is there, and as a politician I would be worried about it on behalf of my constituency too. Let's please not hang this guy until he does something truly ridiculous....like try to call a hearing in the Senate to investigate the whole issue. |
I didn't even read the responses. I will as soon as I send this post.
This resolution is toothless. Almost all resolutions are toothless. What we need is a bill. A bill preventing Roger Goodell from visiting the great state of Louisiana because we can't guarantee his personal safety while here. |
Normally, I dont think politicians should bring sports issues into government business, but if you think about it, this does make sense.
If you punish the Saints & affect their ability to compete, you do hurt New Orleans. If you hurt New Orleans, you also hurt Louisiana. (see explanations of tax revenues posted above.) I know how much money we spend traveling to New Orleans from Houston during football season, and we're just two people. As a season ticket holder, this punishment also punishes me. It would make a lot more sense to just fine the guys involved, not punish me, you, New Orleans, and Louisiana. Rock on, dude. |
"The sanctions faced by the team will likely have a negative economic impact across the Crescent City and the state as a whole.”
So what happens if the penalties stick (which they will) and the Saints get deep in the playoffs or SB for that matter. The resolution would have had no impact and neither would the penalties. I so hope this happens! |
