Talman Gardner

I spoke with his cousin Thursday at little league practice, and picked his brain.

He said the Saints have high hopes for him. He was kept instead of Kelly because he was bigger, faster, and had more potential to develop into a serious weapon.

He said Talman really like Haz. He said players know the difference between and X-O type coach and an Ex-player. They really respect the ex-player types.

He said Talman really like the new WR coach. Look for the WR's to be improved.

Talman's main off-field probs are due to him not wanting to turn his back on his old loser friends. He needs to break the ties with the guys who have nothing to offer him but trouble.

He said if you ever met M.Lewis, you would never belive he was a football player. He is so tiny, but built like a light-middleweight boxer.

He is also quite aware the only reason Haz drafted him was because he is from NO, and hopes his family can keep him out of trouble.

He's working more on catching with his hands instead of his body this off-season. Hopefully less drops.

I think he can develop into a solid WR if he gets his head straight and irons out some fundamentals.

Jimbone...but Danno was saying he talked to Talman Gardner\'s cousin at little league practice. As far a Michael Lewis being so small, it\'s true...Jimbone and me worked for the Saints during training camp (we were security, but all we did was watch practice on the field). It\'s hard to describe how small Lewis actually is because it\'s almost unreal. The guy is listed at 165 I believe, not sure, but looks smaller than that

thanx for the info, but gardner is just ojo with bad character.
draft clayton

I don\'t think Gardner is as bad as Ojo. Yeah, he is a project like Ojo was. I can see him having sucess in this league if he gets it together. He was productive at a much bigger school than Ojo went to. Was a projected second rounder before he got busted. He has much more talent than Ojo did. This guy could be a good player, but it is up to him to work at it.

I worked with one of Talman\'s cousin about a year ago. He was an inmate at Hunt Correctional who cleaned our office for 8 cents an hour... No joke.

Gardner will get his chance this season to prove what he can do. So, Boogro what\'s shaking?

JimBone 04-17-2004 04:54 PM

The Garnder-Ojo comparison is a joke. Ojo was a project and was never expected to develop. Gardner was a stud at Florida State and he is a ballplayer. He had a terrible rookie season but he will pan out. Ojo...I used to like him.

Ojo is overrated.

I think that Gardner\'s future role with the Saints will be determined in camp, along with any rookies or free agents we have. He has a great shot, especially if something does transpire with a possible draft day trade of Stallworth or Horn or both. Personally, I would love to see Stallworth traded for high 2nd and we get Clayton (I think he\'ll slip on draft day) or Jenkins from Ohio St. Stallworth is blazingly fast, but Donte \"Streetclothes\" never plays, even if he\'s healthy enough. This organization can\'t utilize his attributes if he\'s always on the sideline.

Gardner will be our 4th guy at best this year. That being said, he can be a serious threat matched up with a safety or a 4th corner. He could just be another threat in what should be a really potent offense.

Ojo eh?

That guy will be a b-e-a-s......

no.... I have to resist.

Danno, i didnt know you played little league? You speak very well for a kid.

Lots of insight too.

Gardner dosn\'t get much play. You know who else dosn\'t get much play? Velma from scooby doo.

JimBone 04-17-2004 08:43 PM

Velma was overrated.

But sometimes there aint no need for name callin

I hope Gardener pans out, but I dunno if he\'ll even be on the team this season. Think about it - if we assume that Horn, Stallworth, and Pathon aren\'t going anywhere, and we guess that the Saints will probably draft a WR in the first three rounds - that\'s 4 WR. Add back in Michael Lewis, Jermane Crowell, and Derrick Lewis who is over in NFLE, and the Saints have too many WRs.

Our depth chart, if our guys play to potential (which is a big if no doubt), should look like this:

Horn
Stallworth
Draft Pick
Pathon
M Lewis
Crowell/D Lewis/Gardener

I mean, Gardener is basically fighting for the 6th spot. He\'s likely to be developmental if he\'s on the team.

spanky86604 04-17-2004 09:06 PM

Talman Gardner

He will surely have to battle in traingcamp for a spot, because the other guys are not going to just give up there spot. He does have a good chance if he comes into camp ready to fight. The only thing is if the Saints try to put him on the practice squad is that he will have to clear waivers. That might not happen. This kid has skills.

WhoDat 04-17-2004 09:11 PM

Talman Gardner

Well, honestly, I think Pathon may be odd man out. Granted, I don\'t think it\'s likely that Pathon will not be on the team, but he\'s the guy I like least. I think he\'s overrated and seemingly getting old quickly. Assuming we draft a decent WR and Stallworth steps it up like he should, Pathon could be in trouble. The Saints aren\'t likely to dump a special teamer like M Lewis... Pathon may have to battle.

chRxis 04-17-2004 09:16 PM

if he can get over that case of the \'dropsies\' he\'ll be OK

spanky86604 04-17-2004 09:18 PM

Talman Gardner

Pathon is still a baller, but he will certainly be gone after this year.

chRxis 04-17-2004 09:21 PM

Talman Gardner

yeah i think the writing is on the wall for pathon, especially if we can get a good WR in the draft

JimBone 04-17-2004 09:23 PM

Talman Gardner

Pathon may very well be the odd man out...but fellas.
How much do you honestly expect from Germaine Crowell?
He was a very good receiver with Detroit...4 YEARS AGO.
He hasnt played in basically 3 years. |

Derrick LEwis is more of a project than Gardner. I think Gardner has the better shot at making than they do. I hope Crowell can regain his form but it is not likely. Lewis has really good hands but i dont see him beating out Gardner IF Garnder comes to camp in shape and unarmed.
