Well, appealing is actually a smart decision. It's not about trying to lessen suspensions or anything like that, it's about delaying them so that Payton can still do work for a few more weeks. He'll still be suspended for the season, but at least he can get a little more work done.

Negative on the few weeks part. Goodell has already said he will expedite his ruling. Shouldn't take more than a week according to him

Yes, Premier Goddell is acting swiftly.

What's the best that we can hope for?
I don't think anyone cares about the 500K, and the Vitt loss is big, but manageable.
I don't see us getiing the picks back.
That leaves Payton -reduced to 8 games, and Loomis, reduced to 6

I don't think that any of the penalties will be reduced; I see it as forcing Goodell to explain himself just a little bit more.

Kind of like the NFLPA; "you have evidence, then show it"

Yeah, let's see how much time he's going to take to reconsider his own decision? None. He probably already has his response written and is adding more penalties for not bowing out.
There's a flaw in his justice system.
