Our chances?

very few people outside of the Who Dat nation, if any, are giving us a chance this season. There is talk about Carolina and Atlanta, Green bay and The Giants and the teams of the NFC but we seem to have been written off. I say...GOOD! I am pleased that we have been given a very small chance of making an impact this season because then people will leave us alone until they wonder how the hell are the Saints playing for The Superbowl.

NuNu318 04-17-2012 02:20 PM

Everyone's so focused on the bounty BS and bashing us every chance they get they are completely missing whats been going on. They might lose some defensive players to suspension but so far Loomis has signed players to fill in (and in most cases) upgrade at that particular position (except for a DB or 2 which expect they will get in the draft). Brees will be signed before May 21st...trust me niether he nor the Saints really want to go the route of him sitting out OTAs & Training camp. The only real adjustment that they will have a challenge with is the state of flux the coaching situation is in this year which IMO isn't as big a deal as everyone makes it seem.

I don't get why people are counting us out. I think its more cuz they WANT to count us out rather than there being a legitimate reason why the talent we have can't win 10 or more games and make it to the playoffs. Like I was telling a coworker the other day that predicted we would go 6-10 on the year cuz we won't have a defense. We didn't have one last year either...and we still went 13-3. And the last time I check other defenses still had a hard time stopping us from droppin 40 a game.

foreverfan 04-17-2012 02:24 PM

What a stupid question. 100%!!! 17-0!!! It's the off season for god sake. Who Dat?

AsylumGuido 04-17-2012 02:34 PM

Vegas likes our chances. 10-1 to win championship. Atlanta 18-1, Carolina 50-1, Tampa 100-1. Oh, SF is 10-1, too.

If we can go 13-3 again without
a head coach, what does that say about how vital Paytons roll on the team is. Whats the point of even having a hc? We will see a drop off. Our schedule is brutal this year. How much of a drop off is yet to bee seen.

TheOak 04-17-2012 03:34 PM

Same JackWagons that predicted the Eagles to be the team to beat last year.... Dallas the year before that....

iceshack149 04-17-2012 03:50 PM

I'm an OG Sunshiner but Goodell really put a beat-down on the New Orleans Saints. It's an uphill battle that few teams could face and overcome. The Saints are talented and the organization's leaders are smart (except when trying to cover up something they were told to discontinue:rolleyes:) so I'm not ready to sell the 2012 season.

Due to all this asinine over-reacting by the NFL, sanctimonious fans, and self righteous members of the media, winning the Superbowl in February might actually rival the feeling of winning the Superbowl two years ago.
In any case, it's a familiar "us against the world" feeling and I'm ready for the season to start. Right now.

It says Payton put together a heckuva coaching staff and taught them how to function without him? Army of One?

FinSaint 04-17-2012 04:12 PM

Well, I like the Saints' chances. :bng:

halloween 65 04-17-2012 04:34 PM

It will be hard to say until a major decision comes up, thats when Payton shined through like gold, except for those stupid end arounds, I could never see what he saw.

Wow!

Hard punter's money or sentiment money?

Danno 04-17-2012 07:25 PM

I'm curious, who all thinks we don't have a chance? Most of what I've read says we're still the favorites.

We are clearly the best team in the NFC South. After that, why not bring it all home?

I see a Two Dat in our future!!

Ill be happy if we reach the playoffs. Boy I hope i am wrong, just too many odds against us. A happy Brees would settle my nerves a bit.

|Mitch| 04-17-2012 09:48 PM

Still too early to be worrying myself with how well we'll do this year. Still think we are a playoff team regardless. And we're finally getting a defense, an actual tackling defense!

burningmetal 04-17-2012 09:54 PM

Payton has been here 6 years building the blueprint that has made us who we are. Winning a super bowl without him on the sidelines would do nothing but further state what kind of franchise he and Loomis have built, in my opinion. It makes no sense for anyone to think it would diminish his importance.

And for the record, I think we are better now than last year. As others have said, our defense was bad last year anyway, so having a few defenders suspended is not that big a deal. Then add on the major upgrade at linebacker, plus Bunkley on the interior, and we have a much improved defense. The offense might even be better, and they broke records last year, as we all know. With Sproles having a year of the system under his belt, and Jimmy Graham now a well established star, we shouldn't see any slow start this year. Health is the key... If we stay healthy, we're not only the best team this year, but we have the potential to be one of the greatest teams this league has seen.

But don't tell any haters I said that. They might think I'm delusional for looking at something other than negative conjecture by high ranking butt holes who call themselves executives.

FinSaint 04-18-2012 04:12 AM

I agree burningmetal!

I'm very excited to see the progression some of the young players have made and will make under Spags' tutelage: Jordan, Wilson, Casillas, Bussey, Gallette, Patrick, Robinson, Abdul-Quddus, Amaya, Jenkins, and last but not least Romeus.

All of these guys are 24 or younger and have heaps of potential just waiting to be harnessed and focused by a capable teacher, and Spags certainly seems to have the ability to do just that.

These guys are part of the reason why I'm also not just excited about the coming season, but about the future of this defense and the team in general.

Right'o!

I forgot to mention the most important addition to the defense, but you said it. Spagnuolo... This guy alone brings credibility to any defense, which makes the acquisitions even more great. Of the players you mentioned, I'm most excited to see how he develops Romeus, Gallette and Wilson. But all those guys have serious talent, no doubt. Can't wait to see it all come together.

It shows that you need to read his book to understand the way he set up this organization after Katrina wrecked New Orleans. The Saints organization is built to sail with the wind at our backs.......not motor around in the harbor.
We should be grateful that Payton took so much time getting everything right when he came in after Katrina. He evaluated everybody from the kitchen staff up and brought in the right people who were smart and wanted to build something together. And that's what he's done. He won't be here but an extension of him will be through the staff. Dude the skies are not falling, no matter how badly God-all want's it too.
We will over come and we will be victorious.:hott:

MatthewT 04-21-2012 12:07 AM

In the end, all it takes is a wild card birth, then anything can happen. I honestly do not think the 2012 version of the New Orleans Saints will get that far. I am not saying it is something like a 3-13 deal, but I do see something like 8-8, and no playoffs. I do get that the Saints organization is built like no other, but in the same, when it comes to winning/losing the differences are so close I have to believe they will lose games that they would have previously won. The coaching turmoil is going to bite them in the butt at some point. Coaching by committee has no shot at the NFL level, but the Saints out of necessity will have to try it. I seriously don't see anything great coming out of it in the end. Just a lackluster 8-8 season, and the Saints regroup for 2013.

dueceloose 04-21-2012 06:13 AM

Just based on talent alone I feel our chances are good.. goodell wants us to fail but the only way we can go now is up!

Soldano 04-21-2012 08:56 AM

Nobody wants to play the Saints..

The entire lot of NFL teams no full well this is possibly the best offence ever to march on a field & can bury you in 1 quarter . NFC S. also knows if any kind of tackling etc..shows up in NO it will big trouble for all. Brees has that team convinced & proved it many over that when dissaplined & clicking they are the best that anyone has seen on the offensive side of ball. I would go as far to say our chances are better this year then last as just the pure mind set of not letting our offence take care of it all as in ex.. as our lack luster D cost us a SB in SF. Basically nobdy wanted to play'em last year & surely not this year as nothing like swatting a hornet nest in broad daylite. SB title is goal & nothing has changed. HC..? not needed ,.. proven last year.

I have to disagree with you on that and the situation they went through last season was completely different and in no way proved that the Saints would do just fine without SP, because through it all he remained a key part of everything.

Jamessr 04-21-2012 12:08 PM

I like the Saints chances better than those of Carolina or Tampa.
Not to mention I think SP has done a good enough job for the folks around him to keep things aflost until he gets back. I still think Saints win the South and have 2nd or 3rd seed.

Soldano 04-22-2012 08:10 AM

Brees can run it...

Good thing about Brees ,.. he is very, very smart dude & in my mind the coaching staff in play during this 2012 process is plenty to go & win a SB. Brees doesn't need a play caller & has had a very long leash for quite some time. The defense side of ball is were the focus should be to get another ring. Sh.. use the entire B.. scandel & spin it positive to play smash mouth D. similar to the last great Saints team. Nothing like a little healthy fear instilled in the minds of our competitors. Playing at home will not be fun for anyone comeing to the Dome in 2012. JMO....
Joe
