Saints rework Vilma's contract...

The Saints recently restructured LB Jonathan Vilma's contract, according to a league source. The restructuring details weren't immediately known, but Vilma's salary cap figure was going to be around $7.5 million in 2012. Vilma's reworked deal makes sense considering the Saints' offseason signing of LB Curtis Lofton, who may be Vilma's replacement. Vilma's production has decreased because of lingering knee injuries.

so how much cap room does that save us this year?

I'm guessing back-up money. Sign and trade for picks would be nice, don't know what we could get, possible 5th or 6th.

If Vilma restructured his contract to stay then I think we should let him stay.......unless he is suspended for an awfully long time. He may accept a lesser role because he wants to be in the rotation for a Superbowl contender and that sir is what we are.

That's good to here since he's coming off a injury plague year and he's going to miss sometime this year

Freeing up money to get Brees contract done?

I think the Vilma and Greer contracts are to make more cap space for Drew...

Vilma is expecting a 6-8 game suspension.

Great news to hear.. more money to give brees and we keep number 51 on our team.

The good news just keeps on rolling in!

Let us not forget that if Vilma is 100% healthy or at least close to that, then he is absolutely a guy you want on the field as a starter, because the Saints still don't have another LB on their roster with a comparable skill-set and ability.

It'll be excellent to see him in black and gold for the foreseeable future! :bng:

He will be a good mentor to the young guys through is suspension, and it frees up room for Brees!

Another reason to really like Vilma. One of my favorite players.
