Elliott (Denver, CO): What do you think the chances are of the Broncos getting Steven Jackson, and if they do what kind of numbers do you think he'll put up?
Nolan Nawrocki: I'm not quire sure where the speculation that the Broncos are interested in a running back developed, but I'm not buying it. I don't think the Broncos are in the market for Steven Jackson. Very rarely does Mike Shanahan draft running backs in the first round. Drafting Clinton Portis in the second round was very high for Shanahan. With their cutback offense, they can plug in almost any cutback runner with good vision and he'd produce 1,000+ yards. With OLBs John Mobley and Ian Gold unsigned, I think they moved up to get a linebacker. Jonathan Vilma is a very similar player to Ian Gold. D.J. Williams is bigger, faster and more athletic and typically would be drafted higher than Vilma. Some teams have Vilma rated higher than Williams and vice versa depending on the type of scheme they run, but either could be effective in Denver. I think the Broncos are hoping one of them is available at No. 17. want more? click here: http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=5134 |
