Saints’ Payton says he’ll coach son’s team
 

AVONDALE — New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton, suspended for the 2012 season for misleading NFL security looking into a bounty program the league said the team ran from 2009-11, said Wednesday he looks forward to doing the things he normally can’t do during his time away from the game.

Payton spoke with reporters Wednesday for the first time since his appeal of his season-long suspension was upheld by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on April 12.

After playing in the Zurich Classic Pro-Am at TPC Louisiana for the second year in a row, Payton, whose ban began April 16, said he will spend more time with his children — Meghan (14) and Connor (12) — and coach Connor’s football team.

Payton said the first week of his suspension was challenging, but then he said he began to move forward.

“There’s a lot of things I’m looking forward to doing,” he said. “A lot of that starts with your own children and the time that you normally don’t have. I’ll have a lot more of it.”

He needs to team up with Chucky and do a show for the year. These guys would feed off each other. They're good friends. Chucky is the color guy and Payton rolls out the stats and analysis.:wink:

I know he's being 100% sincere about his kids and all, but it almost sounds to me like Payton is winding up Goodell and yanking the league's chain AGAIN. "Well, the NFL kinda sorta doesn't want me around right now, but I need a job, so I'm gonna go over here to the playground and coach this uh, little league team now"...

Am I the only one here who sees Payton's suspension so far as one giant performance art piece? The golfing with Parcells (which caused that HUGE uproar), the drunken photos of him at Lucy's (which is actually called Lucy's Retired Surfer Bar, get it har har har?) on the first night of his suspension, and now he's coaching in the pee wee leagues! UP YOURS, GOODELL! I find this stuff to be quite hilarious.

...makes me wonder if Mike Bell has a little cousin.

I think you're right, Payton is passively giving Goodell the finger, :lol: ... he's certainly turning a negative into a positive, I mean, how can you not like a guy who would volunteer to coach his son's team under the circumstances? I wish I had a kid on that team ... hell, I wish I was on that team!

He should continue with acts like this throughout his entire suspension ... maybe volunteer at a NOLA animal shelter next or a senior center, all the positive press would burn Roger's ass, :lol:.

I can hear the motivation now...

Payton: Ok kid... go for the knees and if you take him out the game, you can have this bag of M&Ms.
