Huge legal fight coming?
Adam Schefter says
'It has been indicated that all four players will appeal their suspensions, but just how vigorously will they contest the ruling? ”Get ready for a massive multiple legal battle over this on several fronts,” said ESPN reporter Adam Schefter earlier on Wednesday.' |
It's the next logical step that the players will be forced to take after the appeals have been quashed by Der Fuhrer. There's nothing else they can do but take it to the legal system.

CBA states players can not appeal any "off the field" issues to anyone but Goodell.
Goodell is playing the "none of this is for what happened on the field", card to keep it in his court. The catch is that he is correct, no one was suspended for any hits on the field. Now is the "other" item.... The players got slammed HARD, BUT, the players were not warned in 2009 to stop, only the front office. Which would be an excellent point for appeal. Basically warning the office, and the coaches not stopping is grounds to slam them.... But never warning the players and telling them to stop does reduce their culpability. Either way Goodell is now and will forever be the "persona non grata" in New Orleans, Cleveland, and Green Bay. And Yes I know the response from select people "they knew it was wrong".... When an item like this reaches this level it is no longer a know/think/feel item... It is an actuality item... The NFL did not do its due diligence in telling the players to stop. |
Now the lawyers are gonna come busting through the brick wall at the perfect moment, screaming "Ohhh YEAHHHHHH" like the Kool-Aid guy. It's gonna be sweet to watch.

NFLPA actually has a reason to exist.
|
The NFLPA has a HUGE stake in the appeals process. The union agreed to the appeals process going through one person.
If the appeal process can "prove" any wrongdoing by the "league" it gives the NLFPA a bit of leverage in getting the appeals process in the CBA changed. But from a suposed 22-27 player involvement down to a 4 player suspension doesn't really sound like the entire defense embraced and supported the program. |
This is what unions are for. One man should not be able to wield this much unchecked power.

Well to the letter of the agreement, if the players can show malice, breach of contract, or improper conduct by Goddell, they are allowed to go to court, according to the agreement. And I think they can. I believe the court wants to hear this case. I know the supreme court does. |
Let the fight last all they way into 2017.
Let Vilma sign a statement to counter act Hargroves account, then let our wonderful court system work through the mess. According to league sources, none of the players cooperated and only Hargrove submitted a signed statement which implicated Vilma. Vilma can submit a statement saying he did not say what Hargrove said he said. At least, not tit-for-tat or word-for-word like Hargrove said I said it. Hargrove lied on me man! |
