Now,im not saying he isnt good,he can be the best player ever,he just needs to cut a notch off asking price. |
Has the Saints offered Brees comparable terms to Brady (and Manning et al)?
Ultimately, the Saints have to get the balance right. They could decide to pay Brees so much that he rest of the team is compromised. Great. Brees now gets his monetary reward. Or the Saints could offer a very decent amount and look to strengthen areas around Brees to have, on balance, a better team. Is Brees still able getting his monetary reward? Seems to me, that is the sticking point from the Saints fans. The fans who love the Saints and love what Brees has done for the Saints but have little comprehension of really what is a contract of value. All I know is that Brees has been terrific. Sure Brees won us many, many, many games. But it still requires a cog here and there to make that wheel go round. Without those cogs, even superman Brees cannot win games. It hasn't been a fluke that we got beat in the playoffs over the last 2 years. We have to ensure the rest of the team is good enough. |

This implies that Brees is damaging the team, and that at some point we need to cut our losses. I might have went overboard with my response a little, but it wasn't by accident :) """"Yes, Brees' accomplishments are great, but it's a team game. Because we have to set aside money for him we traded down Nicks to Grubbs, and Meachem to Arrington. Next year will it be Graham and Bushrod? We can't weaken every other position just to keep one guy happy"""" We are all pretty much on our last nerve, because of the circus and ring leader Goodell has made of the Saints this year. But the question still stands, who is replacing him ? I consider this the most important question to be answered. Its not Drews problem that the office blew so much undeserved money on guys like Harper and Smith. Short of grabbing Colt McCoy, what is our alternative ? What happened before those guy showed up was the 2006 NFC championship. You and scott are right about its a team, but we didn't need this team back then to get there. We did need Drew to get there, and I agree with both of you its a balancing act to get a team on the field. But, I don't see how not having Brees on the field gives us any chance at all of reaching another playoff, even with all the talent we have amassed. The logical way to approach what Brees wants is to first, forget the money, and try to figure out how and who can fill the elite QB spot. The colts struggled with this with PM, untimely deciding to pay PM, and have lesser talent on the field, and rarely were ever out of the playoffs. If PM wasn't injured, he would still be with the colts. NE's Brady has lesser talent than we do and constantly in the playoffs. The 49ers have taken the other route to have a lesser QB and more talent, but have been in the playoffs once, with otherwise dismal seasons. Then beaten by Eli, an elite QB. I think we all know Brees torched the 49ers #1 defense and the seahawks , it was Williams that has failed us 2 playoffs in a row. Unless we can answer the question, who is going to replace Brees, and give us an equal chance to win another Super Bowl. Then we need to pay him the most we can possible afford. Or bite the other bullet and understand we probably won't be in the playoffs that much. Personally, I consider these Brees threads a none issue. Brees is going to sign, and has no intent on going anywhere else. Condon will scream, rant ,counter offer, and wait to the last possible moment until he can squeezes every dollar he can get from loomie. Then Brees will sign. |

All the same, I completely agree that there isn't a better option at quarterback. That's why we're only saying that Drew needs to lower his price. No one with any sense would try to say that we need to cut ties with him, but if we're going to keep this team together, he needs to give in a little too. I would understand him being upset if Mickey were offering him less than other quarterbacks, but he has offered more, and Condon just won't let up. Peyton Manning did have Reggie Wayne, Marvin Harrison and Dallas Clark at one time, but two years ago when he was still playing for them, the talent dropped a little and the Colts had to claw their way into the playoffs. I don't want Drew to have to claw us through a season, so keeping the team together is important and he needs to understand that. I think he will though. I'm not real worried, just annoyed. Like you said, we're all on our last nerve. |
The bottom line is that it doesn't matter if they do or don't sign Brees because you guys will still be here posting and I'll still be reading.
My name is Johnny Doumit and I'm a Saintsoholic!!! |
My guess........he signs.

I agree with SaintGup.
The Saints need to JUST PAY THE MAN!!! Pay Brees his worth for just two years, two years max. 2012-2013 2013-2014 Pay him. He has earned his worth. He should be paid his worth which is in the same figure amount, more/less, of his fellow qb's. |
