Brees, as the Ideal Raider

1 Attachment(s)
"If there's one guy that I was around that I think exemplifies what we're looking for in an Oakland Raider, it would be Drew Brees," Allen told the Contra Costa Times in an exclusive interview.

"When you look at his height, weight, speed, it might not be the most impressive. But what the guy is, he's a tough, smart, competitive, instinctive football player.

Bounty on Allen

neugey 05-04-2012 01:22 PM

Yeah that's we were saying about this time 6 years ago after signing him. That's what we'd say again about him if we could get him resigned!

Halo 05-04-2012 01:24 PM

...MORE positioning from Brees' agent Condon for a bigger contract. Create competition............

Srgt. Hulka 05-04-2012 01:29 PM

There is no competition with the tag. Brees either plays in New Orleans or he sits in New Orleans. There is no Oakland.

I think at 33, at his peak, Brees sitting out would be a disaster. A 34 year old QB that sat out a season devalues him in the NFL.

Someone will pay big money for him, but not a front loaded long term deal he's looking for in New Orleans... then again, look what Condon did for Payton Manning, an injured QB that didn't play a down last season.

You know ... given what Oakland gave to acquire Carson Palmer ... what do you think would they give us for Brees?! Just saying

Raiders? seems like that would be choice #32

NOLA54 05-04-2012 02:40 PM

Hey! Drew is a Saint & will retire a Saint...period!!!

pherein 05-04-2012 02:56 PM

Thanks for upping his price Allen, you jerk

Saintlyone 05-04-2012 02:59 PM

I no longer give a damn....sign or don't sign Drew. Whatever

ScottF 05-04-2012 06:32 PM

since we have tendered Brees, he is officially our property for a year...so, why isn't this tampering?
I think the benevolent one should grant us a mid round compensatory pick

oh, and on a side note, how did palmer feel about this quote?

This is SO ON POINT. Brees deserves more than Manning and Brady for his production over the last 6 seasons. He doesn't seem to be slowing down. His nexxt few seasons could very well be better than the last record setter, odds are in that favor.

How do you know he wasn't offered that?

woody 05-05-2012 03:32 AM

I think jason babin and clay mathews are ideal Saints. Maybe polomalu and revis too.

Someone please explain to me how being the ideal member of a team that has averaged 5 wins a year over the last decade increases anyone's price tag?

I don't understand your question. He referring to Brees being the ideal player.

What did I miss?

If it were the Patriots or the Steelers, or hell, even the Chargers I might take that seriously, but being an "ideal Raider" is kind of like being called an "ideal candidate for NFL commissioner."
They may be nice sounding qualities, but the people identifying them don't tend to pick the best individuals.

neugey: I hope this never happens but they would need to pay the saints more than they have available to get him. If they did somehow convince the team to t6rade him the saints would be able to buy alot of players. Thers always Chase Daniel.

When I think of the 'ideal' Raider, I think of the Raiders of the '70s ... but those Raiders are long gone ... when I think of the current day Raiders, I think of Sebastian Jankowski (k) ... with QB options like Carson Palmer/Matt Leinart, of course a QB the caliber of Brees exemplifies what Oakland is looking for, but Drew can't be 'the ideal Raider' simply because he's a 'winner'.

SaintsBro 05-06-2012 07:42 AM

Does anybody else here besides me read this article and feel kinda warm and fuzzy inside, to think that the Oakland Raiders are jealous of us? Doesn't anybody else see how kinda awesome that concept is? WE are the new Oakland Raiders now, folks! The attitude, the chip on the shoulder, skirting authority, the castoffs and rejects from other teams, lots of penalties, playing to the limits, us against the world, the genius X's and O's coach roaming the sidelines that the refs hate, the defense who's sorta suspiciously known for hurting people, "we think they cheated but we just can't prove it," the iconoclastic "I'm gonna do things my way," borderline crazy owner, who tangles with the NFL brass and gets in their craw...the Oakland Raiders want to BE us now.

I don't know about you people but reading this article made me STOKED. I am so pumped up, I can't wait for the season to start. Screw this "America's team" baloney, and the feel-good Katrina thing where the world pities us and feels sorry for us. Screw being nice. I am enjoying our new found role as total badasses, outcasts, the most hated team in all of football...if they want to make us into that then I am ready to embrace it...I cannot wait to take on the world.

... that's kinda' the way I see it, the Saints are the new 'Raiders' ... I've said it before, it worked for them, why not New Orleans? Now, if you guys could only get an eyepatch on that fluer-de-lys,.

definitely more pirates and raiders in NOLA history than Oakland... and since RG has made it clear that we are not saints...

pumpkindriver 05-06-2012 10:23 PM

Brees is the ideal player for like 30 of the 32 teams in the NFL, duh!

Marlboro Man 05-06-2012 10:37 PM

I am so over this Drew Bree's thing. I really don't care what he does anymore.

Welcome to my world. I would miss his talent, but I would not miss the "pep rallies" among other things ...but, hey...that's just me.

Rugby Saint II 05-07-2012 03:49 PM

Two first rounders. That is what we would get for a trade.(I think)
Could two players make an immediate impact? Maybe.....even probably. The question is can Drew Brees come in and make an immediate contribution? Hell yes!!! He has more value than any amount of draft picks.
We as a fan base are being let down by finding out our QB is mortal..........damn. The FO is doing everything possible to sign him and they will in due time. Then we will move on to double digit wins and a run deep in the play offs while we slap God-all in the face with our jocks. The sweet smell of victory!
Who Dat!!!:bng:

jeanpierre 05-08-2012 08:00 AM

Right now, it's not Roger Goodell, but...

Saints Nation Enemy No. 1

Tom Condon

primadox 05-08-2012 03:51 PM

Dennis Allen, we really don't care what you think.
