Are we shallow at DB?
Sure seems this way to me. We're crazy deep on the front 7 and analysts are saying we don't have "starters" on the DL. But CB seems to be a problem.

yes

I know its hard to get a response on something that isn't directly related to bounties, Goodell or concussions.
How bout this... whats your favorite color??? |
yes, Short term or long term answer: Drayton Florence current salary right at 4 million. I think it is necessary to get Drew done after that though!

Maybe were going to put pressure on the QB for the first time in a while that we don't need that may DB. It sounds good don't it.

Yes, Good Starters at Cornerback; fair at Safety...
Depth, not so much... |

La Canfora seems to think that Florence might be headed to the Chargers, at least they've shown interest in signing him, so I don't know if the Saints are willing pay the kind of money he'd probably be asking with another suitor in the wings. And yes, they are definitely shallow at DB when it comes to proven players, but there are some promising/interesting young players in the depth chart at the moment, so at least there'll be some competition in the coming weeks. |
I am sure that if Sean Payton was here he would be working double time on bringing in corners. It has always been his top priority on defense.

True. I just feel surprisingly confident about the DBs in general - the players and the schemes - probably because Spags and Flajole just went through a horrible season in regards to DBs with the Rams - over 10 DBs on IR - and they were able to get even 4th string guys to perform well as starters. |
We had 5 CB's on our roster last year.
J Greer P Robinson T Porter J Patrick L Torrence We only lost Porter and Torrence. Patrick should step up and replace Porter effectively White becomes J Patrick of last year so that leaves Leigh Torrence who is basically a journeyman CB / special teams player easily replaced. We aren't nearly as thin as people think. |

Right or wrong, that just doesn't compute. |
Chris Johnson anyone?

I am looking forward to Gumbs making it. If for nothing else, the name alone has great potential! :)

Corner is a tough spot.
The key is to position a guy to do what he is already good at. Some guys press&cover well, some zone-close well, some (very few) can do it all. Spags has to evaluate each guys strengths and then play to our strengths. We definitely shouldn't leave a guy who's shoe strings are tied together with no help over the top. My sincere hope is that our DBs don't have to give as much run support as they have been called to give in the past. Banging with bruisers has got to take something away from your coverage reserves, especially late into the game. |
