Legislature calls on NFL to take another look at Saints' penalties
1 Attachment(s)
The Legislature wants the National Football League reconsider the sanctions it imposed on the New Orleans Saints, its coaches and players in the wake of the bounty scandal. On a 28-1 vote, the Senate passed House Concurrent Resolution 50 by Rep. Cameron Henry, R-Jefferson. The resolution passed the House without objection March 23.
The Legislature wants the National Football League to reconsider its punishments against New Orleans Saints Coach Sean Payton and others in connection with the bounty scandal. Henry's resolution urges the league to reconsider the penalties imposed, including a one-year suspension for head coach Sean Payton and fines for a handful of current and former players who allegedly took part in a system in which cash bonuses were paid for big hits on opponents. The sanctions also include a six-week suspension for assistant coach Joe Vitt, and an eight-week suspension for General Manager Mickey Loomis. The franchise was slapped with a fine of $500,000. "There is widespread public opinion throughout the state of Louisiana and beyond that the penalties imposed upon the Saints are too harsh and should be reconsidered," the resolution says. http://media.nola.com/st_tammany_com...8104-large.jpg read more |
Is this just the Louisiana legisla ture? Because if so I can't see that holding much weight, other than that there politicians. Hell I want them to reconsider the punishments and think its to harsh but that doesn't mean it's going to happen.
|
It holds 0 weight. It needs to be a state law that the NFL broke...violating fundamental rights of employees or something of that nature and force them to get in the ring.
|
Yeah, nothing in legislature is adopted and passed that quickly.
Must be an election year... And - LOL - wonder who the ONE person is who voted NO |
I diagree. This might hold some weight if the NFL rejects the demands of the legislature. How about an emergency tax and non-compliance penalty levied against the NFL?
Remember, the Superbowl is in Louisiana this year and the legislature can really mess with the NFL. If the governor and the legislature are on the same page, they can give Goodell and the NFL a fat juicy hell on earth. Just think, the State could double it's profits from emergency compensatory funds from the NFL, so let's see.... HOW BOUT A LITTLE FIRE SCARECROW! |
I just don't see it meaning anything.
|
I want to know what SOB voted against it. Must be from Shreveport area and a cowgirl fan.

28-1 can ya say awkward! |
Now lets clearly look at the Possibility..The Legislature passes a bill, which in turn could go to the house, which if has the necessary support could move to the Senate.
If this thing starts flaming up again..THEN Congress may get involved in a Federal Level. Dont be to quick to throw this out. La Politics is how the Saints landed in NOLA. and THE NFL BECAME THE NFL//Research it..The fact the Huey Long and his buddies controlled the Senate back when the NFL was trying to merge..The played hardball and got what they wanted..a franchise for louisiana and the NFL was allowed to merge. Think it'll work?:p |
This is a HUGE waste of time. For the debate, the media and for us now that we've read it. Their hearts are in the right place. But their brains are tucked away in an old shoe box.

Every little bit of pressure is fine by me. I want Comissar Godhell to do some jail time.......for War Crimes!

And it is sending a message so it isn't a waste. It shows the state is united over this. |
The NFL will likely scoff at it but I agree with Halo, with the SB in our backyard it could be a bad idea to ignore it. I just wish it had some meat in it:

Fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm with Halo. This could be something that can be leveraged down the road. But beyond even that, KEEP THE NOISE COMING. Do NOT simply give up. All the hell that CAN be raised NEEDS to be raised, but any and everyone in a position to raise it. Roger Goodell MUST BE MADE TO SHOW HIS EVIDENCE. When that happens, the chips can then fall in whichever direction they fall, but he MUST show the Evidence. |
This Wednesday when the NFLPA has their grievance heard, will that force Roger to show what evidence he has against Vilma and Smith or risk the suspensions revoked?
|
Man will this ever end.
|
I'd like to know who was the one dumb a** that voted against it.

For the sake of Louisiana and possibility of future Super Bowls being held there, the Legislature should tend to more pressing matters.
While the intent and message are good, the repercussions could be felt for years. |
BEAST is nailing it!!!!!
I think everyone should ask why she voted "NAY". |

Just kidding if you're from Ruston... |
District 5 is not Ruston, it is in the heart of New Orleans, it stretches along the Mississippi River from Canal to Jefferson Avenue and includes the Central Business District, the Warehouse District, the Garden District, Central City and parts of Uptown, Mid City and Carrollton areas.

We don't need the legislature to act (it doesn't mean anything anyway). We just need an Arbitrater &/or Judge to do the right thing & turn this in our favor. |
