You've got to be kidding me, Rivers is not one of the top QBs in the league and I don't care what anyone says about it, he just doesn't have the mental attributes to become an elite QB, IMO.
And to compare the success of Turner and Rivers to what Payton and Brees have had is just as ludicrous.
Anyway, whatever the article says, Schottenheimer and Smith both have to take their share of the blame, and I wouldn't give Smith as high of a grading of how he managed the situation with Brees and Rivers as the author does.
... I thought it was an interesting read also, and they did use the phrase 'almost as good' when comparing the Turner/River match to Payton/Brees ... though I didn't catch it the first time around and had a little chuckle over that one myself, ... Turner/Rivers may get you to the playoffs every year, but you'll eventually be at home watching the SuperBowl ... tommorrow is Norv Turners birthday, just FYI in case anyone wants to pop on over to the Chargers site and wish him a happy birthday, .
