When they say \"he was too good to pass up\" HE\'S TOO GOOD TO PASS UP! They were considering Wilfork, but I can guarantee you no one had Wilfork rated ahead of Smith on their boards. |

Haz employed a similar strategy in Pittsburgh called the 9 technique. Don’t ask me to explain that one in detail, I just figured out the 1 and 3 technique. But I hear he also did it here with Clemmons and Mitchell early with good success. You basically move Howard just inside the LT and split a LB or DE outside of him for 1 single purpose. RUSH the passer. The Raven do it quite often with Suggs, and I think the Pats also do it.
The LT MUST play Smith, leaving Howard to beat a guard, and possibly a blocking back to the QB. Delhomme, Vick, and Brad Johnson are not happy with our pick. As I calm down from my CB hissy-fit I’m starting to think we did exactly the right thing in drafting Will Smith. We couldn’t get a good trade-down and why reach for a 2nd round CB with the 18th pick? We landed the best DE in the draft. I was thinking we should have picked Wilfork but his negatives were weight control and taking plays off. That sounds a bit too familiar to me. |
