When will the Drew Brees contract get done?
Just a quick question to see when everyone thinks the Drew Brees contract situation will get resolved. Personally, I believe it will happen in late June, but that's just my two cents. I wonder what the actual situation is now. How far apart are the two sides? Still $2 million per year? Who blinks first?

Due to the salary cap, he will play under the Franchise Tag this year.
|
I don't know when, but there is a deadline for getting long term deals done with players who have received the franchise tag.
|
Friday July 13th is my guess. Will go down to the wire but will be signed
|
Its gonna be a late one!
In the meantime, have a beer. |

I can't see Drew playing under the Franchise Tag and I don't see the competitor in him allowing him to miss a year; both sides will have to compromise or one side will have to give in...

There shouldn't be anymore Defensive breakdowns in the playoffs, like the 49ers and 'Hawks! |
Back on topic, I voted training camp.
I don't believe the team needs him right now, we'll make it through the OTA's. Vilma's lawsuit has had the affect of keeping every news service and crap writer to lay off the team, the Goodell-Bountygate issue is dying down. |
I think he will have signed a new contract by the start of preseason, but only if both sides are willing to make compromises.
|
i know that a lot of people are making a big deal over the contract and him not being signed yet, but tbh when you get up into the 21-25 million dollar range the small difference in what contract to give him can go a long way in terms of signing other players. I think Loomis is handling this well by trying to milk the deal.

Brees Contract

Basically your skill and worth to the team are broken down into dollars and cent$ like a piece of cattle. But that IS the nature of the game and how players want to be represented - through performance based contracts. Players like Colston etc. were not inquiring about contracts making them the highest paid players in the history of the NFL, therefore their contract negotiations were less cumbersome. Drew needs to understand this, but I also think his recent comments were for publicity to notify Loomis etc. to make contact with him. Patience by WHO DAT brothers and sisters... |
With both Benson and Loomis stating publicly that a long term contract "will get done" this year..... I doubt he will sit out or play under the FT.
I think all the drama may have distracted the FO from negotiations and Brees public statement was more of a "ok guys... back on topic, what are you going to do about me". Focus Loomisson http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vBa7gLzlJ0...600/miyagi.jpg |
At the very last minute !
|
I'm hoping he will get signed before training camp. Quit stalling and pay my husband already. I have a wedding to pay for. HAHAHA!HAHAHA
