Saints' Akiem Hicks hopes his path makes him better pro

METAIRIE — Akiem Hicks looks the part of an NFL defensive tackle, even if his resume does not stack up to those of most players selected in the first half of the NFL draft.

The closest the 6-foot-5, 324-pound Hicks ever came to playing major college football was the few months he spent at LSU as a junior college transfer before dropping out without ever playing a down.
"When that moment didn't go through, you had to find a plan B," said Hicks, who wound up finishing his college career on 110-yard fields in Canada. "It was a blessing that I was able to play at the University of Regina in Canada and I wouldn't change a thing.

So I hope we see this year why we drafted this guy so high ! ! Maybe they can bring the beast mode out n him ! ! !

Hope he turns out to be another steal for this team. Lord knows we need the help on the defensive line. With the under achievers we have on that line I hope he takes someone's job.

He's going to make Ellis expendable.

I wanted the Saints to pick him, and although I was hoping they'd get Derek Wolfe in the 3rd and Hicks in the 5th or 6th, I'm very happy they at least were able to get this guy.

He seems to have all the natural attributes it takes to be a successful interior north/south type of D-lineman, and Spags is just the right guy to teach him all the other stuff in order for him to reach his potential.

Like Mayock said during the draft, if Hicks would've been able to go to school at LSU, it might very well be that he would've been a higher graded prospect than Brockers - and he'll carry that chip for his whole career.

Agreed, the adversity that he's gone through is going to prove what type of person he is going to be, and I think he's going to be the type of person that lets this fuel his passion and make him a good player, spags will teach this guy!

Advice to Akiem Hicks - It's what you do when you are blessed with the opportunity...

...there once was a quarterback named Warner...
...undrafted, bagged groceries, and was even a Barnstormer...
...the first stringer got hurt...
...the Rams rallied round Kurt...
...Soon there'll be a Bronze Bust named Warner...

Ok, since nobody asked...from the pic, what does a sheik oak VHS tape holder with kiddie videos have to do with Saints football?
