Anyone starting to think Brees may sit out?
With Payton gone he may figure this is as good a time as any. What do you think? I ****ing hope not. Ill be pissed.
|
No, not yet
|
Benson trumps everybody in this and he said it would be worked out. Probably not a good idea to take someone who owns stealerships for his word but I'll give him a pass this time. Brees is one of the best things that ever happened to Benson.
|
If he sits out, does he get paid?

I still don't like Benson. |
Not at all. Brees isn't going to lose 16+ million over 3 or 4 million. He will be in camp.

At some point soon, we're going to have to replace Drew, that's just a fact of life. We may have squandered the opportunity to draft or trade for his replacement over the last couple years, but it has to be done. We're being held for ransom now because we didn't make an earlier effort to draft his replacement sooner than later so now we're paying for it because Drew has all the leverage. As tired as I am of hearing about how poor multi-millionaire Bree's isn't getting what he thinks he's worth (Hey Drew, there's millions of us out here that ain't gettin what we think we're worth either) we still don't know what has been offered and turned down. For a QB that has thrown 22-23 INT's the last couple years and cost us PO position and PO games, I'd say about 500k more than Manning or Brady whoever is the highest paid.
|
I'm starting to since he filed for an arbitrator. I know he was just curious as to the specifics of the new CBA but still. Him just wondering about it is enough to make it a possibility. I hope to God he doesn't sit out but if he did I'd still be excited for the season and I would like to see what chase can do
|
I've been saying for a couple of months that if an agreement cannot be reached, he will not sign his tag. He will sit.
|
Hope Beastmode is right about Benson. We still need Brees now to have a legit shot. I still think Brees has four or five years left so I am not sure a really good quarterback is going to sit in the wings that long waiting for a shot. That is the problem we have here. The really good ones dont come around that often and when they are proven winners they get scooped up fast. Why look elsewhere when you have one already ? Best you can do is get a good serviceable backup that could hold down the fort until your guy gets back. I have been saying he wit sit but hope he doesn't now with this francise thing going on now and if it goes up to 23Mil I think he may sign. What a number ? I hope the team can get something done so it doesn't come down to this

If he sits, I'd tag him again next year.

He'd be in the exact same boat next year. Although I'm not 100% certain of the new CBA rules. |

Look, I love Drew just as much as the next guy, but if we tag him and he doesn't play we don't pay. Principalities. If I'm in charge I'm just not going to let one player - and I don't care who he is either - hold the team ransom when he's been offered multiple fair deals. And I'm not hating on Drew. I support him 100% right up until the deadline, but not one tick of the second hand past it. |
Just saw on twitter the Saints are opening up OTA's to the public all next week......I hope that means a deal will be done for Drew by then or they might not see excited fans but angry protesters screaming at Benson to "Sign Brees!!" While he's in his little golf cart.....LOL

Hold up on that next year tag idea..... We need to let some things play out first. If the arbitrator sides with Drew that would be his third tag and makes all of this nearly a wash.. He wants 21m a year and the combined total of the two tags is around 40m. Drew is believed to be asking for 21m a year.
21x2 = 42m current tag 16.371M + Third tag 23.574M = 39.945 Here is the martha faulker of all of this: If you think we have cap issues trying to pay him 21 M this year for a contract... wait until we have to pay him 23.5m nest year for the third FT. Next year could bring a whole slew of people who preformed very well in 2012 wanting to get paid. Cutting two and paying him now, could actually be a whole lot better prospect than having to cut 4 next year and having to pay him anyway. The alternative is to cut Brees and let the chips fall where they may..... I am not such a fan of this. If you "think" cutting brees is ok with you, imagine this: Brees in a Cowboys uniform next season putting up a 40 burger. Besides: IMHO there should no one on our Defense getting above league minimum after they way they have preformed the last two seasons.... Much less Vilma, Shanle, and Ellis |
Benson made a lot of mistakes in the late 80's. Benching players close to thier contract earmarks, ditching Hebert...I think he realizes now that it's just not worth it. Sure you are saving money short term but big picture you are losing. Look at the SD with his stealership logo, no way that deal happens if the team was in the doldrums. Now he has the biggest free advertising banner in the city. There are a lot of other perks as well. I think Benson will let things get as far as they can and step in at the last minute.

Hope not, that will be hard to swallow sittin and spending $ in the Dome.

This is getting ugly.:brood:

If Bree's sits out this season, the Saints will be in position to draft his replacement in the first round of next years draft. I
Think that if Bree's sits out, that will end his relationship with the Saints, and we may need to tag him again and trade him next year. It should be easier for a good rookie QB to do well with the talent we will have around him. It's going to have to be done anyway so the sooner the better. |

Its in my mind that Brees does not even care what Condon thinks in the end.
He will let Condon control it until it gets to a breaking point. Drew has been very clear in the years that he loves NO, and its where he thinks his destiny is, you don't just turn that thinking around. Drew Brees is not interested in being on any other team, end of story. He knows we took a chance on him, and the parades and fan worship he and his family will get if he brings another ring. He also has personal friendships here. IF it was any other QB , like Rogers, I would be worried, but Im not. Brees is going nowhere. He loves the fans, the coaches, and ownership. He's not your typical guy, and he expects to be here. He's just waiting for the Condon process to play threw. In the end he will sign, even for less. He's just trying to get his bucks now because this is the BIG deal for him. There is not going to be another after this. .. and for all anyone of us knows he might be trying to play till 40. No one knows anything, but we all know Brees. He's a great guy, and wants his family in NO. |
I'm not worried he's gonna sit out the season. Ya know why? Cause my give a ****ter is almost completely broken.
|
He'll sit out, after the Saints put 3 points up on the Falcons. We all know they're only good for 2 points :)
