Moving defensive pieces
Last season, the New Orleans Saints became the "Greatest Show on Turf Part II" due to virtually breaking every top offensive record.
A huge part in achieving such offensive heights was the fact that head coach Sean Payton was able to create huge mismatch situations downfield with tight end Jimmy Graham and all-purpose running back Darren Sproles. With one of the best players in the game in quarterback Drew Brees leading the way, Payton was able to use Graham and Sproles like the queen piece in chess. Payton was constantly moving the duo across the field to give defenses fits in trying to match up with them. While it's early in the offseason to judge, you can clearly see that new Saints defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo is experimenting with his version of the queen pieces in chess on defense. With the New York Giants, Spagnuolo had great front four talent with Michael Strahan, Osi Umenyiora, Mathias Kiwanuka and Justin Tuck along the defensive line. While the Saints have no one quite that talented as most of the Giants players mentioned, Spagnuolo has found some defensive pieces that may fit those roles. Full article.
