Mike Ds analysis of saints draft!!!
I still have major question marks about the cornerback spot, because to be honest, they are woefully thin at that position, and hopefully once the dust settles they will have to see this also.
It\'s just not depth, but what happens if they lose someone to an injury like Fred Thomas or Jason Craft? They are back to square one. Also they have to remember that almost 50% of the time, teams are using either 3 or 4 wide receiver sets. They have to match-up. I don\'t care what kind of a pass rush they have. They must have a good assortment of cover people and right now I don\'t see it on this roster.
That\'s scary and they must address this issue with a veteran player or two. I know the Saints are talking politically correct by saying they like what they have at cornerback, but they \"MUST\" know they can\'t go into the season with the current mix of corners.
This is what scares me also. Mike is right on with this - the Saints had BETTER do something about the corner position.
Devery Henderson is a really good prospect. He brings great speed and run after catch skills. The thing that catches my eye is that he has caught 76 passes the last two season and 19 of those catches have resulted in touchdowns. I do believe that he will be the #3 receiver, along with Horn and Stallworth and I really believe they are setting up a trade for 2005 with this selection.
Just like selecting Deuce McAllister, it took a year to deal Ricky Williams. I think next year, if the current regime is in place, Joe Horn won\'t be here. To tell the truth, I don\'t see Horn and Jerome Pathon on this roster this time next year. This will give Henderson a year to hone his receiving skills and cause some real mismatch problems downfield.
Uh... I don\'t like that. Pathon yeah, but not Horn. We\'ll see what Stallworth and Henderson do this year, but right now, late April of 2004, the prospect of Joe Horn not being on our team terrifies me. Regardless of his antics he is one of the best in the league year in and year out and he is head and shoulders above any other receiver on our team right now.
Grow up, coach them up and win from within.
P.S. Get a cornerback or two also..
This may become my new signature.
