New Orleans Saints guard Ben Grubbs is focused on being his own man

As a free agent with a number of teams in line for his services, Ben Grubbs found himself in an envious position this offseason. But with teams calling to bring the Pro Bowl guard in for visits, there was just one perfect fit for Grubbs, an Alabama native.

The New Orleans Saints, who had just lost All-Pro left guard Carl Nicks in free agency, came calling with a big check and a starting position on perhaps the best offense in football.

Ben Grubbs is not the only one who is happy he's here.

Following Tuesday's minicamp, interim Saints Coach Joe Vitt raved about Grubbs, pointing out his ability to help with line calls and at the same time, dominate at the point of attack.

"(Grubbs is) very, very smart, very detailed player," Vitt said. "He is probably a little better communicator on the offensive line than Carl Nicks was, so he is going to be a positive influence for (left tackle) Jermon Bushrod.
