SAINTS AGREE TO TERMS WITH SEVEN ROOKIE FREE AGENTS
April 26, 2004
New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints have agreed to terms with seven rookie free agents, it was announced today by Executive Vice-President/General Manager Mickey Loomis.

The seven rookie free agents who have agreed to terms include TE Kyle Acker, S Brent Hafford, G Augie Hoffman, G Chris McKelvy, FB Nate Schurman, K Brent Smith and QB Ryan Sorahan.

TE Kyle Acker, 6-foot-3, 255 pounds, led Salisbury State with 19 catches for 205 yards (11.4-average) and two touchdowns in 2003.

S Brent Hafford, 6-foot-0, 185 pounds, was the Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Year as a senior at Stephen F. Austin. In his career, the free safety played in 33 games, with eight interceptions for 43 return yards.

G Augie Hoffman, 6-foot-2, 307 pounds, helped Boston College continue its string of five-straight seasons with a 1,000-yard rusher with his rugged blocking. While with the Eagles, the versatile performer played right guard as a freshman and junior, left tackle as a sophomore and left guard as a senior.

G Chris McKelvy, 6-foot-4, 327 pounds, was a three-year starter at Penn State used at both right tackle and left guard. Considered a top run-blocker, McKelvy can also long-snap.

FB Nate Schurman, 6-foot-2, 247 pounds, was a four-year letterman at Southwest Missouri State, playing two seasons at tight end before becoming the Bears starting fullback. He was an All-Gateway Conference second-team selection as a senior, when he had five carries for 16 yards and added seven receptions for 53 yards.

K Brent Smith, 5-10, 208, was a former walk-on at Mississippi State who took over the kicking chores for the Bulldogs as a junior. He made 24 of 30 field goal attempts and all 35 PATs during his two-year career at MSU. His 24 field goals rank sixth on the schools all-time list, and Smiths 53-yard field goal vs. LSU in 2002 is the second-longest kick in school history.

QB Ryan Sorahan, 6-4, 240, completed 35 of 72 passes for 545 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions as a senior at Arkansas. Sorahan spent three seasons with the Razorbacks after originally signing with California, transferring to San Jose State and eventually landing at Foothill (Calif.) Community College.

Two undrafted rookie free agents signed following the 2003 NFL Draft were on the Saints' roster last season, with TE Zachary Hilton spending all 16 games on the active roster and DT Kenderick Allen playing in 10 games with one start.

Preview 2003
Penn State offense

Best pro prospect: Senior OT Chris McKelvy

Projected Starters
- Tackle Chris McKelvy, Sr. - McKelvy started eight games at both guard and tackle last year finishing at left guard as one of the better players on the line. He\'ll move back outside to tackle as the team\'s anchor and most experienced lineman. He\'s 327 pounds and has to fight to stay that light.
