As the Saints and quarterback Drew Brees continue to engage in a stare-down that may or may not result in a multi-year deal by the franchise-tag deadline of July 16, there’s reason for hope that the gap between the two sides will be closed.

The hope comes from the fact that the gap is far smaller than previously reported.

Widespread reports over the past several months have pegged the Saints’ offer at $18 million per year, with Brees’ demands north of $21 million. Some accounts have put Brees’ expectations at $23 million annually.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, that’s not the case. Brees, we’re told, has never asked for $21 million. And the Saints are believed to be offering more than $18 million, possibly closer to $19 million than $18 million.

He goes on but it's complete conjecture and blah, blah,blah............

Ok so what is it then ?

This has been the offseason of the ill-reputed "sources" and I've had just about enough... :doh:

So if brees never asked for 21 million or 23 million and we are offering above 19 mil then what's the hold up?

So easy to type those figures but knowing you'll never come close to that amount of money in a lifetime makes me feel sick that players care so much about that much money

This is the gap... Neither side will budge.

Sounds like it either the length of the deal or the structure.
Sounds like some much needed news,hopefully we can get to the bottom of the suspensions soon aswell.As much as I want to see Vilma play we need to know where we stand with the cap and if we need to hit the market.

Only 13 weeks to go now,this has been a hell of a offseason to say the least.
