Just read this on Nola.com, we have offered brees 19 mil which is supposedly what he was looking for and said he will accept

I hope that the presser is going to be about him agreeing to a new contract with the Saints and not about something else...

I wonder how front-loaded that an average of $19M a year deal is going to be if it is in fact true, and how many years will it be for?

Yeah really, I hear you, Seer. Drew signs now, I'm just gonna shrug and be like, okay, whatever. About freaking time.. I'm past being excited about Drew news anymore. But if it crackles over the TV that Goodell suddenly resigns, I would be jumping around and clapping people on the back and buying rounds for everybody at the bar on Friday night!

There are so many conflicting reports on this....Triplett says no deal, of course Florio does too. A lot of local media reporting that its going to happen, national media and Triplett says no. So yeah....its whatever...i don't believe national media and its hard for me to believe the local guys cuz they just regergitate the stuff national guys put out.

I find it's the national guys regurgitating what the local guys are saying.

Florio is going to say exactly what Triplett says.

Fox 8 people should know something... they are the mouthpiece for the organisation by default - Fox 8 and the Saints are both owned by Benson.

I thought Florio released his story before Trip did? Either way I forgot that the people saying it is going to happen is coming from Fox 8 which is reassuring that it may be true. How mad is TP gonna be when they realize (if true) that they got scooped AGAIN on the biggest Saints news this offseason....

oh Halo, it's definitely the other way around...the TP just parrots back what the national people are saying. (I like you, man, but we might as well argue about this to pass the time.) Just go through and look at a selection of Saints stories on nola.com -- almost every single one of them has a link to somewhere else as its source. "So-and-so is reporting that"..."Fujita said in an interview in the Cleveland paper that..." "League sources have announced"...almost none of what the TP or nola publishes is new or "scoop" type stuff!

This is why the TP is cutting back the newspaper to almost nothing -- they have almost nobody doing real reporting anymore, just cut-and-paste from other sources. It's like a glorified blog now.

The details of the story of the bounty crap and the Brees contract stalemate has consistently been broken by national media, not the TP. Florio has his own sources, which include Triplett and the local guys, but he also has also others that are far different from what Triplett has access to.

But -- I agree with you that Fox 8 has an obvious inside line on the Saints.

Everybody else was totally blindsided by it, but it only took Lee Zurik like half an hour in the back room on the phone, to find out the exact identity of the person who was spreading the ridiculous "wiretapping" story around. Zurik's reporting on that piece was awesome!

There is no indication that an agreement between unsigned franchise player Drew Brees and the Saints is imminent, sources tell the Times-Picayune.

Some local television and radio reports suggested that a deal could be done as soon as Friday. But the reliable Times-Picayune and ESPN's Ed Werder are both reporting that nothing is close. Brees' grievance regarding the amount of his raise under the franchise tag rules won't even be heard until the final week of June, according to PFT's Mike Florio.

Well i guess the, Fox 8 (which is owned by none other than the team owner), who is reporting the deal is getting done isn't as reliable as ESPN (who reports wire taps without ANY type of evidence) and TP (who takes everything any national media writer breaks about the Saints and just paraphrases it). But its whatever....

All of this, contract is about to be singed, contract is imminent, in talks, balh blah is NOT CONTRACT IS SIGNED!!!!

Ok, I 'll take this latest info for it is worth which Saints are giving us..again and that is they are not giving him his worth ...yet.

Saints made new offer to Brees last Friday | ProFootballTalk

If the Saints and quarterback Drew Brees currently are truly close to getting a deal done, they’ve been close for nearly a week.

As reported by multiple other outlets, the Saints have recently made Brees a new offer. According to a source with knowledge of the negotiations, the team made the new offer on Friday.

If the goal of the Friday offer was to get Brees to show up for a three-day mandatory minicamp that opened Tuesday, it didn’t work. The source also said that Brees’ camp has yet to respond.

In theory, agent Tom Condon could call G.M. Mickey Loomis on Friday (or, you know, right now) and say, “We accept.” But that’s not how it usually works. Deadlines drive the final positions. With the offseason program winding down, there’s no reason for either side to move toward its actual bottom line because the other side will wait until the eleventh hour and then squeeze for more.

So with the deadline for doing a multi-year deal coming on July 16, that remains the date to watch. Something also could happen after the late June hearing before Stephen Burbank on the question of whether Brees would be entitled to a 20-percent raise or a 40-percent raise under the franchise tag in 2013, if both sides sufficiently fear losing the $3.9 million that hangs in the balance by waiting for Burbank to issue a decision.

Either way, there’s currently every reason to believe that Brees and the Saints will have a long-term deal in place by the middle of July.

While this may be true most of the time in this case the local guys definitely broke the story first. ESPN and the national guys disputed the reports that were made yesterday by the local guys until today. The local guys stuck to their story.

Lets get it done !!!!!!

I hope its true cuz it'd be great to have a big story about the Saints that is good news for a change.
