Question for the Forum
It is obvious Goodell expects/wants the Saints to fail this year to send a message to the rest of the league.
When it becomes obvious the Saints are going to make the playoffs, is it realistic to wonder if Goodell would use the refs in an attempt to de-rail the Saints and spare him the embarrasment of having to hand the Saints another Lombardi trophy? I am beginning to believe that Goodell would have rather suspended Brees than Payton if he could have found a reasonable excuse to do so. |

We're talking about lifetime bans for Goodell and others involved a la Pete Rose style. |

Why not? They do it in the NBA all the time ... I wouldn't put anything past Goodell at this point, he is a snake of epic proportions, imo&pitoo89%oaNf. (in-my-opinion-&-probably-in-the-opinion-of-89%-of-all-NFL-fans).

I do not think the Refs are fans of Goodell either.... Remember they are contemplating strike at the moment (I believe), and not big fans of the league. For that reason I do not think Goodell would even chance that discussion going public because a ref got disgruntled one day.
Way too risky from a PR point of view, and no guaranteed payoff. |

WD!656! , you have a good point suspending Brees if Goodell could that, he would have.
