The quarterback continues to avoid blame or scrutiny for his reluctance to accept a one-year offer that would pay him more than $1 million per game. He wants a long-term deal, and even though the team reportedly has overstated his financial demands, no one in N.O. seems to be turning on Brees.

I may be mistaken but I don't think you can make a player play without paying him, but I haven't read the new CBA in its entirety.

And last time I checked the team already offered to pay him more than any other player in the NFL, twice.
