Now baseball is getting into bountys!
Slugger collects $5K 'bounty' for walk-off home run
Baseball's new Bountygate is a good deal tamer than what's going on in the NFL. When Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon blew his first save of the season, he came up with a plan to salvage something as his teammates prepared to hit in the bottom of the ninth against Jake McGee of the Rays. "Whoever walks this guy off, I'll give him five grand," Papelbon told them. So Jim Thome promptly swatted one into the left field seats for a 7-6 Phillies victory. "I didn't think Jim would do it right off the bat," Papelbon said. He should have -- the shot made Thome the all-time leader in walk-off home runs. Now, what will the commissioner say? It was nice to see Thome hit that landmark. He's never played for my teams (Braves in youth, Astros these days), but I've always been a fan.
Hopefully that walk off HR didn't bruise anyone's palm or break a nail or anything, otherwise Goodell might be getting in touch with Selig & Congress about an investigation. |
Line drive the pitcher onto a cart... Now there is a bounty challenge.

Really baseball? HUH that is all sports! Watch soccer, how many slides do you see with the cleats up? Leg take downs.
ALL sports have them |
The NFL drama is akin to 'high-and-tight' in baseball. It's part of the game. You hit my guy, I'm going to throw at your guy's head.
That's baseball... And it's as much a part of the game and balls as strikes. Over the years it's become less a part of the game thanks to Bonds and his ilk wearing armor in the batter's box and the owner's desire to see more home runs and the ignorant 'half-fan' who does not appreciate the game itself - the game within the game, which is why I believe anybody stepping up to the plate with armor on should be subjected to a pitch or three thrown directly at his head. A pitcher has a right to the 'inner half'. I LOVE it when the batter and pitcher are warring over the inner half of the plate. If Roger were in charge, that would be banned. That is, essentially, what he is in mid-process of doing to the NFL. He's ruining it and it's calculated - it is not by accident. Louisiana needs a professional hockey team, because that's all that's left I'm afraid. Better learn what that blue line means, and what icing means - if you like contact sports I mean. The NFL is done. |
It's a dangerous game. Someone is going to get hurt.
