Mitchell focused on return to Saints' lineup
Safety's rehabilitation ahead of schedule

A season-ending knee injury and subsequent months of arduous rehabilitation have given Saints safety Mel Mitchell a new perspective on life.

He no longer takes his NFL career for granted, knowing now it can end without a moment's notice.

"I've never had something that I love to do taken away from me before," Mitchell said. "Last year really opened my eyes. (The injury) could have been ended my career. It made me think about going back to school and finishing up my degree.
